Florida GOP celebrates sweeping local victories while Democrats embrace one communist mayor

Nov 10, 2025

Democrats notched wins across the country this week.

But one state proved they're marching in the opposite direction.

And Florida Republicans celebrated sweeping local victories that exposed this ugly truth about the Democrat Party.

Republican Party of Florida dominates local elections while New York elects socialist mayor

Republicans swept local elections across Florida on Tuesday while Democrats in New York City elected a self-described democratic socialist as mayor.

Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power highlighted the stark contrast between his state and places like New York where voters handed power to 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani.¹

"While other states veer left into chaos and higher taxes, Florida voters continue to choose leaders who believe in personal responsibility, strong families, and safe communities," Power stated.²

Republicans won mayoral races in Hialeah, Lakeland, and Seminole along with city council and commission seats from the Panhandle to the Keys.³

Power took a direct shot at Mamdani's victory in New York where the democratic socialist defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.⁴

"As states like New York embrace radical figures like Zohran Mamdani, Florida continues to lead the way," Power declared.⁵

The victories came as Democrats celebrated wins in Virginia and New Jersey where they elected new governors.⁶

But Florida Republicans painted Tuesday's results as proof their state stands apart from the national trend toward the far left.

Bryan Calvo won the mayoral race in Hialeah while Sara Roberts McCarley captured the mayor's office in Lakeland.⁷

Republicans also won city council seats in Homestead and commission races in communities across Florida.⁸

Emilio González advanced to a December 9 runoff for Miami mayor after receiving the second most votes but falling short of the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff.⁹

Florida GOP chairman's track record of winning

Power has built the Republican Party of Florida into what may be the most successful state party in the nation since taking over as chairman in January 2024.¹⁰

He replaced Christian Ziegler who resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations after the party voted to oust him.¹¹

Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Marco Rubio, and dozens of other prominent Republicans endorsed Power for the chairmanship.¹²

Under Power's leadership in 2024, Republicans registered more than 350,000 new voters and built a 1.1 million voter registration advantage over Democrats.¹³

President Donald Trump won Florida by 13 points in 2024 — the largest margin for a Presidential candidate since 1988.¹⁴

Miami-Dade County flipped Republican for the first time since 1988 as every county in Florida shifted red.¹⁵

Republicans defended their supermajority in the state legislature for the first time in history while Senator Rick Scott cruised to reelection.¹⁶

The party also defeated two constitutional amendments to legalize recreational marijuana and abortion despite millions spent supporting them.¹⁷

Power was reelected by a resounding 183-19 vote in January 2025 after presiding over the massive Republican wave.¹⁸

New York's sharp left turn creates opening for Florida Republicans

The contrast between Florida and New York couldn't be more dramatic.

Mamdani campaigned on freezing rent for rent-stabilized units, creating city-run grocery stores, and making buses and childcare free.¹⁹

He wants to raise taxes on anyone earning over $1 million and implement a $30 minimum wage by 2030.²⁰

President Trump threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Mamdani won, calling him a communist.²¹

Miami realtors reported an influx of inquiries from New Yorkers worried about crime and taxes under Mamdani.²²

"They are worried with his agenda, it's not only taxes, it's safety," one Miami realtor explained about potential buyers fleeing New York.²³

The New York Post reported nearly one million New Yorkers may leave the city if Mamdani's policies become reality.²⁴

Florida stands ready to welcome them with open arms.

Power argued conservative governance delivers real results, not just campaign promises.

"Florida Republicans are winning elections, solving problems, and keeping our state the envy of the nation," Power concluded.²⁵

The Tuesday election results showed two paths forward for America — Florida's conservative success story or New York's socialist experiment.

Voters in Florida made their choice crystal clear.
