Byron Donalds Just Buried Casey DeSantis With One Poll Number

Apr 5, 2026

Ron DeSantis bet his entire legacy on a 2028 presidential comeback – and Florida Republicans just told his wife they're done waiting.

Now a brand-new Emerson poll shows Casey DeSantis at 7% in the GOP governor's race – her worst number ever.

The woman who was supposed to inherit the Governor's Mansion just got told by her own party to go home.

Trump Picked His Horse and Florida Republicans Followed

Byron Donalds is sitting at 44% with Casey in the race and 46% without her.

That gap tells you everything. She isn't cutting into Donalds.

She's parking with undecided voters who still won't commit to her – and even that group is shrinking.

Donalds just raised a record $22.2 million in the first quarter of 2026 alone – more than any non-incumbent Florida governor candidate has pulled in during the first quarter of an election year.

His total war chest has now crossed $67 million.

Trump called him a "TOTAL WINNER" on Truth Social and told him to run.

Then Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and Elon Musk lined up behind him.

Casey DeSantis never had a chance. She just didn't know it yet.

How Casey Turned a Medicaid Clawback Into a Political Slush Fund

The Hope Florida Foundation scandal didn't just wound Casey DeSantis – it proved that the DeSantis brand now comes with legal liability attached.

Your Medicaid tax dollars were stolen from sick Floridians, laundered through Casey's charity, and spent on Ron DeSantis's political agenda.

Here's exactly how it happened: Florida's largest Medicaid contractor, Centene, overbilled the state $67 million.

Every dollar of that was owed back to taxpayers. Instead, $10 million was quietly routed to Hope Florida Foundation – Casey's signature charity – and that money then flowed through two nonprofits directly into a political committee run by Ron DeSantis's own chief of staff, James Uthmeier, to kill a marijuana legalization amendment.

Republican state Rep. Alex Andrade reviewed the evidence and said flat out: "I am firmly convinced that James Uthmeier and Jeff Aaron engaged in a conspiracy to commit money laundering and wire fraud."

He told reporters he'd leave the rest to the FBI and Department of Justice.

The Florida House launched an investigation.

Hope Florida's own chairman admitted under oath that "mistakes were made."

Then Hope Florida and the nonprofits stopped cooperating entirely – refusing to testify before the legislative panel.

Ron DeSantis called it "pure politics." That defense didn't work for him during the presidential race, and it isn't working now.

Most Florida Republicans haven't heard of Hope Florida yet – a UNF political scientist put the number at roughly two-thirds. When they do, Casey's 7% is going lower.

This Race Is Already Over

Casey DeSantis hasn't even declared a candidacy yet.

She's been floating a "trial balloon" for roughly a year and the balloon keeps losing air.

Compare those numbers to where she started. In late 2023, she led the GOP primary field at 22%.

Donalds was at 9%.

The moment Trump endorsed Donalds in February 2025 and Donalds jumped in, her numbers inverted – and they've kept falling ever since.

Even if she somehow won the Republican primary, the general election numbers are ugly.

Emerson tested her against two Democrats – former Republican-turned-Democrat David Jolly and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

Jolly actually leads her 40% to 39%. She edges Demings 41% to 39%. Both spreads are inside the margin of error.

Donalds, meanwhile, beats Jolly 44% to 39% in a state Republicans have dominated for three decades.

That's the contrast Florida Republicans are staring at.

The Trump-endorsed congressman with $22 million raised in a single quarter who beats Democrats cleanly.

Or the first lady dragging a money laundering investigation into every campaign stop.

Ron DeSantis challenged Donald Trump for the presidency, got destroyed, and tried to hand his wife the governorship as a consolation prize.

Florida Republicans just made clear that isn't how this works.

Donalds leads every single age group.

He's pulling 54% among voters over 60. That's the primary electorate.

This race is decided.
