At a Senate hearing in April 2021, Stacey Abrams told Congress that requiring a photo ID to vote was racist.
Ron DeSantis just signed a law putting immigration status on every Florida driver's license.
And now every Democrat in America has to explain why showing a card is an act of oppression.
What Florida Just Did That 49 States Haven't
Starting January 1, 2027, every new and renewed Florida driver's license will display the holder's immigration status directly on the card.
Not buried in a database somewhere.
Not accessible only to law enforcement with the right system login.
Right there on the card, visible to anyone who asks to see it.
Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles already requires applicants to bring a birth certificate, U.S. passport, or naturalization certificate just to get a license.
The SAVE Act doesn't change the requirements.

It changes what the card shows the world about the person carrying it.
The Real Target Was Always the Ballot Box
The driver's license change is one piece of a larger law that leftists are already calling "voter suppression" with a straight face.
Florida's SAVE Act mirrors the federal SAVE Act in its core requirements: proof of citizenship to register to vote, mandatory voter ID, and an end to universal mail-in ballots.
The state will now use REAL ID data to verify voter registrations, require paper ballots, and force state and local agencies to coordinate on identifying ineligible voters.
Thomas Kennedy of the Florida Immigrant Coalition called the license change "an invasion of privacy" because you might have to show your ID at a restaurant or a bar.
That's the argument.
You might have to prove you're legally in this country when you hand your ID to a bartender.
Abrams told the Senate Judiciary Committee that requiring photo ID to cast an absentee ballot would put voters' identity "at risk" – and that restricting voting hours would hurt people who can't leave work.
She named disabled people, rural voters, students, seniors, and people of color.
Not one of them is prevented from obtaining a legal ID under any law DeSantis has ever signed.
This Is What Closing the Loopholes Actually Looks Like
The federal REAL ID Act passed in 2005 after the 9/11 Commission recommended standardized, secure identification to prevent terrorists from obtaining state IDs using fraudulent documents.

Twenty years later, 19 states plus Washington D.C. were still issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens – cards that look identical to the ones held by citizens.
Florida already required the paperwork to prove legal status.
The SAVE Act requires the card to reflect what the paperwork proved.
That distinction matters because a license that looks identical whether you're a citizen or an overstayed visa holder creates exactly the kind of cover that benefits people gaming the system.
"Safeguarding the electoral process to improve oversight and prevent unlawful influence has been a top priority for my administration since my first days in office," DeSantis said.
He's right – and the Democrats howling about it know he's right.
Democrats Fight ID Laws Harder Than They Fight Deportations
The Left doesn't fight deportations as hard as they fight voter ID.
They don't fight border wall construction as hard as they fight laws that reveal who's in the country.
Every time a state requires proof of citizenship to vote, they call it an attack on democracy.
Every time a state puts immigration status on a license, they call it an invasion of privacy.
The pattern never changes: the thing that would expose who's actually voting, or who's actually in the country, gets the loudest and most coordinated resistance.
DeSantis just signed a law that does both – and Stacey Abrams and the Florida Immigrant Coalition responded before the ink was dry.

Florida's law doesn't deport a single person.
It doesn't arrest anyone.
It doesn't change who's eligible to vote.
It just makes the card tell the truth.
And the people fighting it the hardest are the ones who need the lie.
