While the rest of America watched government schools spend a decade handing kids therapy worksheets and "feelings journals," Florida was building something different.
Now the woman who beat breast cancer while raising three kids under five in the governor's mansion just hit a milestone no other state has reached.
Florida teachers can now earn a first-in-the-nation endorsement for teaching kids to be tough – and what happens next is going to embarrass every other state in the country.
Florida Teachers Get a Credential No One Else Has
The State Board of Education approved the Resiliency Educator Endorsement on Friday – a professional certification teachers can add to their Florida credentials after completing training in the state's 11 resiliency characteristics.
Those characteristics include perseverance, grit, gratitude, responsibility, critical thinking, mentorship, and citizenship.
Not "mindfulness."
Not "centering your feelings."
Not a single lesson about systemic anything.

Commissioner-Designate Henry Mack put it plainly: the endorsement gives teachers "high-quality professional learning to better support students as they develop the skills to overcome the obstacles within their lives."
Obstacles. Not oppressors.
State Board of Education Chair Ryan Petty said the new credential equips teachers with "practical strategies to cultivate resilience in the classroom, helping students build the confidence, perseverance, and life skills they need to succeed."
The new endorsement becomes one of 14 options available to Florida educators.
This Is the Antidote to What the Left Was Selling
For years, the progressive education establishment pushed Social Emotional Learning – a framework that conservative critics, including Arizona Superintendent Tom Horne, called a "Trojan horse" for introducing leftist ideology into classrooms.
Manhattan Institute fellow Christopher Rufo described it as a program designed to "soften children at an emotional level" and rewire their values toward left-wing ideology.
Florida said no.
Casey DeSantis – Emmy Award-winning TV journalist, mother of three, cancer survivor – launched Resiliency Florida in February 2021 as a direct counter to the SEL industrial complex that had colonized school districts across America.
She built it from scratch while fighting breast cancer.

And she won on both fronts.
Instead of teaching kids that they're victims of systems beyond their control, the program teaches them they can fight through anything.
In January 2024, the State Board made resiliency education mandatory across K-12 health and physical education courses.
In spring 2024, parents and grandparents became eligible to serve as Resiliency Coaches – trained, certified, and paid a $150 stipend to volunteer in schools.
Last July, the state launched 44 teacher resources covering all 11 characteristics.
Now teachers can earn a formal credential for mastering how to deliver them.
Florida didn't just write a new policy.
They built an entire ecosystem.
What This Means for Your Grandkids
Every other state is still arguing about whether SEL indoctrinates children.
Florida already replaced it – with an endorsed, teacher-certified program anchored to citizenship and personal responsibility.

That's what happens when someone with skin in the game runs the show.
A woman who told a room full of Republicans she was "sure as hell not giving up" while undergoing cancer treatment built a program that tells kids exactly the same thing.
Florida's A-F school accountability framework spread to more than 15 states after DeSantis put it in place.
The Resiliency Educator Endorsement is next.
In two years, some other governor is going to stand in front of a camera and announce their state's new resilience program – and the blueprint will have come from Tallahassee, built by a mom who already knew what it looked like to refuse to quit.
