Florida Democrats just handed Republicans their dream opponent.
Now Ashley Moody gets to run against a self-described socialist who quoted an FBI most-wanted terrorist from a church pulpit.
And here’s why Donald Trump called this socialist Democrat’s victory on Tuesday “the most gratifying” result of election night.
Democrats Pick the One Candidate Who Makes This Even Easier
State Rep. Angie Nixon won Tuesday's Democrat Senate primary by defeating Alexander Vindman – the army lieutenant colonel who built his entire identity around hating Donald Trump.
Trump called Vindman's loss "the most gratifying" result of election night.
He wasn't wrong.
Vindman outraised Nixon by millions.
He had national name recognition, establishment backing, and the entire anti-Trump media complex rooting for him.
Nixon beat him anyway – running on abolishing ICE, Medicare for All, free everything, a $25-an-hour minimum wage, and a national rent freeze.
The Democratic Socialists of America now have their first-ever Senate nominee.
In Florida.
A state Trump won by 13 points.
A state with the largest Cuban-American population in the country – people whose families fled socialism.
She Quoted an FBI Most-Wanted Terrorist While Campaigning in a Church
Here is what Florida Democrats just decided best represents them.
Nixon stood before a church congregation and quoted Assata Shakur – a Marxist convicted of murdering a New Jersey state trooper, who broke out of prison, escaped to Cuba, and landed on the FBI's most-wanted terrorist list.
She called Shakur a "famous freedom fighter."
She then described ICE agents – American law enforcement officers – as tools of racial profiling who will "shoot and kill" Black Americans.
She has screamed through a pink bullhorn on the Florida House floor to disrupt a vote.
She was arrested for a sit-in at DeSantis' office.
She called drag shows "wholesome" entertainment and admitted to taking her children.

She wants to put ICE agents in jail.
She supports open borders – which she calls "a comprehensive and clear pathway to citizenship for folks."
She called for a ceasefire in Gaza within weeks of the October 7th Hamas attacks.
This is the person Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand immediately backed after her win.
They called her someone who has "dedicated her career to fighting for Florida."
They weren't wrong about that either – she's been fighting against everything Florida has actually voted for.
Why Republicans Couldn't Have Scripted This Better
The race to fill Marco Rubio's Senate seat was never going to be easy for Democrats.
Florida has moved hard right since 2020 – Republicans hold more than a million-and-a-half voter registration advantage statewide, and the gap keeps growing.
Ashley Moody was already polling ahead of every potential Democratic opponent before Tuesday's primary.
After Nixon's win, UVA's Center for Politics analyst Kyle Kondik moved the race from "Likely Republican" to "Safe Republican."
Prediction markets have Moody winning at 92%.
There's a reason Trump's own political advisers responded to Nixon's victory by saying, "We couldn't have picked a better candidate."
Nixon now has to sell democratic socialism to a state full of people who either fled socialism personally or watched their neighbors do it.

And she has to do it with less money and less name recognition than Moody – while carrying the DSA brand in a state where the word "socialist" ends campaigns.
Ron DeSantis – who Nixon once called "the biggest pain in her ass" – watched all of this unfold and couldn't commit to even campaigning for the Republican gubernatorial nominee because he didn't think Florida was competitive anymore.
That tells you everything you need to know about where this race is headed.
Nixon told her supporters at a victory rally, "We know the attacks are coming."
She's right.
And she gave Republicans every single one of them.
