A Federal Judge Just Tossed the Left-Wing Lawsuit Against Florida Voter Verification With a Line That Has Democrats Fuming

Oct 4, 2026

Left-wing activists spent two years in court trying to tear down the basic requirement that voters prove who they are.

A federal judge just handed them the bill.

And a federal judge just tossed the left-wing lawsuit against Florida voter verification with one line that has Democrats fuming.

The Judge Used Five Words They Will Not Forget

U.S. District Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe dismissed the case on September 29th and buried the plaintiffs with language almost never seen in a federal court order.

She called the lawsuit "manufactured by meddlers."

That is a sitting federal judge – not a Republican politician, not a Fox News host – describing a coordinated left-wing legal attack on Florida's election laws in five words.

The groups behind the lawsuit, Florida Rising Together and Florida Rising, could not identify a single Florida voter who was unable to register because of the "exact match" verification requirement.

Not one.

Moe found the plaintiffs lacked standing because they never established a real injury.

When your entire lawsuit depends on proving harm and you cannot name one harmed person, you do not have a lawsuit.

You have a press release with a filing fee attached.

What Florida's Law Actually Does

Florida's exact match requirement is straightforward.

When a voter registration application comes in, election officials check whether the name, address, driver's license number, or last four digits of a Social Security number match government records.

If they match – you're registered.

If they don't match – you provide verification.

That's it.

Florida has run this system for 17 years.

The RNC and the Republican Party of Florida intervened in the case specifically to defend it, and RNC Chairman Joe Gruters did not mince words after the ruling.

"Making sure people are who they say they are when they register to vote is about as common sense as it gets," Gruters said.

Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power noted the obvious: the plaintiffs "could not point to a single person who was unable to register" because of the rule.

This Is Not a One-Off

The Florida ruling is part of something much bigger.

The RNC has filed 115 election integrity lawsuits in 31 states and is currently running more than 160 active election-related cases heading into the November midterms.

They won a New York Court of Appeals ruling blocking noncitizens from voting in local elections.

They won a case stopping Michigan from counting absentee ballots with missing or mismatched ballot numbers.

They won the Fifth Circuit upholding Texas protections against ballot harvesting and voter coercion.

Now Florida.

The Left's legal strategy on election integrity is built on a single assumption: that Republican election laws are too expensive and too complicated to defend in court indefinitely.

The RNC just proved that assumption wrong, one ruling at a time.

The Bigger Play in Florida

This ruling does not happen in isolation from the rest of what Florida is doing.

Governor DeSantis signed Florida's version of the SAVE Act in April – requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and mandating that election officials check voter rolls against state and federal databases to verify citizenship status.

The ACLU and the League of Women Voters immediately filed suits to block it.

After two years of litigation against the exact match requirement, left-wing activists could not produce one voter who was blocked.

That matters for the SAVE Act cases now queued up in Florida courts.

Every time these groups claim their lawsuits protect real people and a federal judge looks at the evidence and finds none – that precedent builds.

The midterms are 34 days away.

Florida's election integrity framework – the exact match requirement, the SAVE Act, the voter roll maintenance laws – will be intact and enforced when Floridians vote in November.

The activists lost.

The law held.
