The Christmas season is supposed to be a time for cheer.
One woman took advantage of the spirit of the season.
And a Florida housekeeper played the Grinch for Christmas with this awful crime.
Florida housekeeper attacked an 83-year-old woman over a Christmas bonus
Heather Nelson, a 29-year-old, stands accused of taking advantage of her position as the housekeeper for an 83-year-old woman in Brevard County, Florida.
Nelson believed that she deserved a $500 Christmas bonus from the woman.
The elderly woman told her that she did not have the money in her budget to give a bonus.
Christmas Eve was ruined when Nelson went on a rampage after the rejection.
Nelson ripped the checkbook out of the elderly woman’s hand and decided to give herself a bonus.
“She actually took the check by force, [she] took some Christmas cards that had money in them, took some debit and credit cards, left the residence, forged some signatures and attempted to take quite a bit of money from this woman,” Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tod Goodyear told WOFL.
The elderly woman suffered a broken wrist from the brutal Christmas Eve attack.
Nelson did not stop there after she stole the checkbook.
She paid her rent with a $1,400 check stolen from the elderly woman.
“Based on what she was using the monies for, she was in financial trouble,” Goodyear said. “Maybe she just saw this as the only way possibly out of it, but to take advantage of our elderly seniors is not what you do.”
The Grinch is headed to the slammer
Nelson spent two weeks writing bad checks and using the credit cards of the elderly woman but the sheriff’s office finally nabbed her.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office put out a press release that was heavy on Dr. Seuess references after Nelson was arrested.
“Damn Grinch, you went too far!! I guess committing battery and almost breaking the wrist of the elderly victim wasn’t bad enough, so you decide to steal all her money and take Christmas gifts that were meant for others away as well!! What’s next … kick her dog?” the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office stated.
“Now while the original Grinch story may have ended with everyone in ‘Whoville’ being happy and sharing their Christmas with the Grinch, this one ends with Agent Sherrill not being happy at all about what happened and going to get a warrant,” the press release added.
Nelson was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a person over 65, forgery, credit card fraud, grand theft, and other felony charges related to identity theft.
Goodyear lamented that criminals are taking advantage of the elderly.
“The elderly are scammed, they are taken advantage of by other people a lot of times because they have some diminished capacity, or they’re very trusting,” Goodyear said. “They grew up in a time when people trusted each other.”
Heather Nelson is going to be spending her next Christmas in a jail cell after her heinous attack on an elderly woman.
