One criminal decided it was go big or go home with one robbery.
He made one mistake that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
And a Florida man had one daring scheme to steal a Rolls Royce for a joyride.
Florida man drives off in idlingly Rolls Royce at the valet line
James Brown, 36, pulled off a daring theft of a Rolls Royce Ghost at a Miami, Florida condominium complex.
Jonathan Sanchez, the owner of the Rolls Royce, parked the vehicle in the valet line at the Paraiso Bayviews condominiums.
He told the valet that he was making a quick trip up to his condo because he forgot his wallet and to watch the vehicle.
Brown walked up to the Rolls Royce, told the valet it was his car, and hopped in.
The valet let him drive off with the $400,000 luxury car.
Sanchez was flabbergasted when he came down and found that his Rolls Royce was gone.
“As I walked out, everyone’s freaking out. They said, hey they stole your car! They stole your car! And I’m like, what do you mean they stole my car?” Sanchez stated. “How does that happen? I gave you guys my car and you just let someone walk in and just leave? It’s a $400,00 vehicle, already just gone.”
A surveillance camera caught Brown driving off in the vehicle.
“I’m like, how does this happen? I gave you the car. You just let him get in the car and roll off?” Sanchez added. “I’m furious, but what comes to mind first is just, do better.”
The hunt is on for the stolen Rolls Royce
Sanchez called the police but he was not going to wait for them to track down the car.
He contacted Rolls Royce who could track the car via GPS.
The location led them to a gas station in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami.
Sanchez and his friend found his stolen car.
They chased down Brown and his friend tackled the thief and held him down until the police could arrive.
“We took matters into our own hands, thankfully there was a police officer from City of Miami who did outstanding work,” Sanchez stated. “And he did it from a desk. We fortunately got the car back, but it has about $120,000 in damage and there’s no one to take responsibility for it.”
Brown trashed the vehicle during his joyride through Miami.
“The chassis, the suspension, windows are cracked, vandalized inside,” Brown said. “It’s just sad to see that something so careless could’ve just been prevented by doing simple procedures.”
Sanchez said auto theft and crime in Miami had gotten out of control.
“It’s a horrible thing in Miami. What’s been happening with high-value vehicles?” Sanchez asked. “It doesn’t seem like the valets are doing what they need to be doing. And it’s anyone’s fault but mine. I live part-time in Colombia, and I live part-time in the United States, and I can tell you I’m more peaceful in Colombia.”
James Brown was charged with grand theft auto, petty theft, and resisting an officer without violence for his Rolls Royce joyride.
