A Florida teacher launched one woke scheme that cost her big time

Government education has been captured by the Left.

Woke indoctrination takes priority over learning.

And a Florida teacher launched one woke scheme that cost her big time.

Florida teacher fired over using transgender student’s name without parental consent

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vowed that his state is where woke goes to die.

He has been on a mission to eliminate woke indoctrination from government education.

A Florida teacher was fired after she used a student’s transgender name without the permission of the parents.

Melissa Calhoun taught at Satellite High School in Brevard County, Florida when she learned that her contract would not be renewed for next year.

DeSantis signed a law in 2023 that required teachers and staff to get permission from parents to use a name other than a student’s legal name.

The law was meant to stop the practice of students changing genders at school and hiding it from their parents.

Satellite High School officials were alerted that Calhoun was not using the student’s legal name, which prompted an investigation.

Calhoun admitted to violating the law and told school officials that she was respecting the wishes of the student.

She will be allowed to finish the school year which wraps up in May.

Brevard Public Schools spokeswoman Janet Murnaghan said the district “supports parents’ rights to be the primary decision-makers in their children’s lives, and Florida law affirms their right to be informed.”

Florida is reviewing Calhoun’s teaching certificate after the incident.

“The teacher is working under a ten-month contract that expires in May 2025,” Murnaghan added. “Since the state will be reviewing her teaching certificate based on these actions, the district decided not to renew the annual contract until the issue is resolved with the state.”

Calhoun is believed to be the first teacher to lose her job under the law.

Leftists protest over teacher being fired for secret transgender agenda

DeSantis signed House Bill 1069 in 2023 to prevent teachers and school officials from encouraging gender transitions behind the backs of parents.

“We are going to remain … a citadel of normalcy and kids should have an upbringing that reflects that,” DeSantis said at the time. “It’s kind of sad that we’re having some of these discussions.”

Left-wing groups were furious that Calhoun faced the consequences for going behind the backs of the student’s parents.

Brevard County parent and Defense of Democracy activist Amy Roub organized a protest and a petition against Calhoun’s firing.

“I’m seeing people who never got involved before signing the petition and commenting on Facebook,” Roub claimed. “I think people have just had enough of this from the school board. They’ve gone too far this time.”

Brevard County School Board member Katye Campbell said that teachers are expected to follow the law even if they do not like it.

“The parents are the number one decision-makers for their children. That’s why we send out the form, that’s why the State Board of Education made the rule,” Campbell said.

Melissa Calhoun found out the hard way that trying to promote a gender transition does not fly in Florida’s government schools.
