A Florida teen’s drunken pork chop attack left police scratching their heads over what they found

Florida never disappoints when it comes to bizarre arrests.

Now another wild story emerged from the Sunshine State.

And a Florida teen's drunken pork chop attack left police scratching their heads over what they found.

Teen Arrested After Food Fight Turns Violent in Jensen Beach

Eighteen-year-old Farrah Kernan got herself arrested on Thursday, January 22, for domestic battery after what started as a verbal argument with her mother turned into something straight out of a bad comedy sketch.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from Cynthia Kernan, who told deputies her daughter had been drinking earlier that day.

According to the arrest affidavit, Kernan slapped her mother across the face during the argument.

One of Cynthia's friends caught that moment on video, which shows the teen striking her mother and Cynthia recoiling backward.

But here's where it gets weird.

Cynthia told police that before the video started rolling, her daughter threw a pork chop at her.

Yes, you read that right — a pork chop.

The deputy who responded to the scene noticed "food residue" on Cynthia's left shoulder that backed up her story.

Officer Couldn't Keep Straight Face During Bizarre Confrontation

When Deputy Emmanuel Perez tried to question Kernan about what happened, the teen "appeared confused and provided statements that were inconsistent with the evidence and not relevant to the battery."

Then Kernan completely lost it — screaming, crying, and refusing to cooperate.

The whole scene had all the hallmarks of someone who'd been hitting the bottle too hard and couldn't get their story straight.

Florida law defines domestic battery as intentional touching or striking of a family or household member against their will.

That includes anyone related by blood or marriage, people living together, and even folks who used to live together.

This Isn't Kernan's First Run-In With Law Enforcement

Kernan already had a record before this pork chop incident.

Last year when she was 17, she was arrested for trespassing on the Jensen Beach causeway after getting into a physical altercation with another female.

That case got resolved through a deferred prosecution agreement requiring 50 hours of community service.

Now at 18, she's looking at much more serious consequences.

Kernan faces up to a year in jail if convicted on this first-degree misdemeanor charge, plus a possible $1,000 fine.

The judge could also order her to complete a 26-week Batterer's Intervention Program and slap her with 12 months of probation.

But the real punishment could be the permanent criminal record that follows her around for life.

Unlike some other offenses, Florida law doesn't allow domestic battery convictions to be sealed or expunged — ever.

That means this pork chop incident could haunt her job and education prospects forever.

The state reported 106,515 domestic violence cases in 2020 resulting in 63,217 arrests.

That same year saw 217 domestic violence homicides, representing roughly 20 percent of all murders in Florida.

Florida's Pattern of Absurd Food-Related Arrests

This story joins a growing collection of bizarre Florida arrests involving food as weapons.

Just last week in St. Petersburg, 28-year-old Austin Simmons got hit with felony battery charges for throwing a ketchup packet at someone at a bus terminal.

Because Simmons had a prior battery conviction from 2019, what would normally be a misdemeanor got elevated to a third-degree felony carrying up to five years in prison.

The victim ended up with two ketchup stains on his jacket.

Cops decided the ketchup packet itself — which was "on the ground opened with ketchup pouring out" — wasn't worth collecting as evidence.

Kernan was being held on a $2,500 bond following her arrest.

Her next step is an arraignment where she'll be formally charged and asked to enter a plea.

The mugshot that made the rounds on social media showed what many observers called an unapologetic smirk.

The case raises questions about whether Kernan will take responsibility for her actions or if her history of physical altercations signals a pattern that needs serious intervention.

Throwing food at your mother after a day of drinking is a surefire way to end up in handcuffs — even in Florida.
