The weatherman tries his best to predict the forecast.
Florida’s weather is always ready to throw them a nasty curveball.
And a Florida weatherman became the story when he found himself in this scary situation.
Tornado strikes an Orlando TV station during the weather report
Central Florida was on tornado watch in Seminole and Volusia counties
Fox 35 meteorologist Brooks Garner was giving viewers a live update on the tornado warnings for the counties when he noticed the station’s studio was in a dicey situation.
He noticed on the live camera outside the station that a tornado was heading right for the Fox 35 building in Lake Mary, Florida.
The meteorologist managed to keep his cool as he directed his colleagues to take shelter.
“I’m continuing to look at those cameras there, that I-4 cam,” Garner said. “Yeah, let’s turn it west. That’s good. Turn west so you can see it’s going through the tower. Look on the bottom right-hand part of your screen. Keep going. Keep going left and keep going left and keep going. Keep going. And if we can bring that full.”
He had his producers cut to the camera outside the station when he noticed big trouble was on the way.
“Do you see that area where the rain – See that?” Garner explained. “That could be it. Guys, bring that camera full. Okay. This is a live view from our TV station. Of what? Maybe, at the very least, it’s torrential rain crossing I-4 right now. We could be looking at a tornado on camera. Look at those trees blowing around.”
Garner spotted a tornado and sprang into action.
A weatherman keeps his cool in the middle of a tornado
“This is a look at the live camera of a tornado which could be passing by our station right now,” Garner stated. “Okay. There’s debris. We’ve got debris on. Okay. Take shelter. Everybody in the Fox 35 building, get to your safe space under your desk!”
He was not going to take cover while there was a tornado to report on.
“We’re catching debris right now on the roof! Debris is on the roof right now. We’re hearing you can see the debris flying there on the camera. This is a tornado! Seek shelter immediately. Get under your desks, guys! Anchors under the desks! Everybody get under the desks!” Garner exclaimed.
An EF2 tornado struck the Fox 35 building in Lake Mary.
“This is a confirmed tornado,” Garner said as this power flickered. “This is a very serious situation. This is a real, live tornado. It just hit our station.”
Garner was calm under pressure as he helped his co-workers and kept viewers who tuned in for storm coverage informed.
“I’ve been doing this for a very long time. That’s the first time a tornado has hit me while I’m doing the weather,” Garner admitted.
The tornado destroyed two homes in Seminole County, and thankfully, no deaths or injuries were reported.
Brooks Garner managed to pass the hardest story of his career with flying colors.
