Hurricane Idalia’s landfall forced DeSantis to hit the pause button on his Presidential campaign for a few days.
But now a leaked audio from Ron DeSantis just surfaced that shows the Governor has a secret weapon ready to boost his campaign.
Ron DeSantis put his Presidential campaign on pause this week to stay in Florida and lead the recovery efforts after Hurricane Idalia slammed into the state on Wednesday as a Category 3 storm.
The Florida Governor was forced to press pause on his campaign only a few days after turning in an impressive performance at the first GOP debate.
Polls continue to show Donald Trump is the clear frontrunner in the race, but DeSantis is fresh off a campaign reboot and a solid debate performance.
But a leaked audio obtained by CNN revealed a secret weapon Ron DeSantis has that can “convert an entire room” of Republicans to his corner.
The leaked audio is from a meeting Never Back Down, the Super PAC supporting DeSantis, held with donors before the first GOP Primary debate.
Chief strategist Jeff Roe can be heard telling the attendees “now let me tell you a secret – don’t leak this audio” in the recording.
But someone leaked the audio to CNN.
“In an urgent appeal to wealthy Republicans who had assembled in Milwaukee ahead of the first GOP presidential primary debate, top brass for the super PAC backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told donors they needed an injection of $50 million over the next four months, according to leaked audio obtained by CNN,” CNN reported. “Roughly 60 donors attended the fundraising lunch, hosted at a DoubleTree hotel blocks away from the debate venue, sources familiar with the event details told CNN.”
In the audio, PAC officials discuss Casey DeSantis playing a larger role in her husband’s campaign.
“Enlarging Casey DeSantis’s role, specifically, is something super PAC officials said they view as a crucial way to boost the Governor’s campaign,” CNN reported.
Never Back Down chief operating officer Kristin Davison said Casey DeSantis “brings a level of humility and warmness,” adding that “with her help, they can convert an entire room.”
Casey DeSantis has always played an important role in her husband’s campaigns and his administration.
She’s been active on his Presidential campaign.
But Republican voters in the early Primary states are about to see a lot more of Casey DeSantis on the campaign trail.
