A Socialist Senate Candidate Called 300 Florida Residents Extremists for Asking About Parking

Oct 7, 2026

Bernie Sanders and AOC endorsed her.

Last weekend, socialist Democrat Senate candidate Angie Nixon flew to a county she doesn't represent to smear 300 retirees over a simple question.

And this socialist Senate candidate called 300 Florida residents extremists for asking a question about parking.

What the Meeting Was Actually About

Three hundred people packed a Palm Beach County public meeting Friday, overflow crowds spilling into the hallways, to ask about a place of worship approved in January 2022 without a full Board of County Commissioners vote.

Those are legitimate questions.

Residents wanted to know about traffic.

They asked about parking.

They raised concerns about public notice, security, funding sources, and background checks.

They wanted to know if those approvals could be reversed.

Commissioner Maria Sachs called for order and said she planned to propose changes to the administrative approval process for places of worship.

Former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, the Republican congressional nominee in Florida's 25th District, urged officials not to silence residents who were facing a time limit.

This is exactly what community meetings are for.

Nixon Didn't Answer a Single Question

Nixon's response to all of it was a press statement that didn't address a single process question – just a declaration that the crowd was made up of "far-right extremists" and "anti-Muslim protesters."

"Let me be absolutely clear: there is no place for Islamophobia in this state or country," Nixon said.

She called one attendee "an extremist agitator" who traveled to the meeting specifically "to terrorize our Muslim neighbors."

Nixon's statement didn't mention traffic.

It didn't mention the approval process.

It didn't mention public notice.

It said nothing about the county commissioner vote that didn't happen.

She called 300 Floridians asking basic zoning and safety questions a hate mob – and apparently thought that was leadership.

This Is the Florida Senate Race Democrats Chose

Nixon is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America who won a stunning upset primary victory over Alex Vindman in August.

She's running on Medicare for All, a national rent freeze, free childcare, a universal jobs program, and higher taxes on billionaires.

Ashley Moody – the former Florida attorney general appointed to fill Marco Rubio's Senate seat – enters November with $8.5 million in the bank compared to Nixon's roughly $265,000.

Non-partisan analysts rate this race solidly Republican.

Nixon's strategy appears to be: fly into Florida community meetings, call half the room Islamophobes, and hope that plays in a state Trump won by 13 points.

Nixon Came Four Hours to Answer Nothing

This is now the standard Democrat move when residents ask questions about any project they don't want to discuss.

Call the room extremists.

Call them bigots.

Move on without answering anything.

It worked in college towns for a while.

In Palm Beach County – where retirees asked about parking and got labeled far-right terrorists by a state legislator – it's going to land differently.

Commissioner Sachs, to her credit, said she planned to organize a separate public meeting and propose changes to the approval process.

Nixon showed up anyway to call everyone names.

The meeting ended without action on the existing approvals.

The residents still don't have answers about traffic, funding sources, or the commissioner vote that should have happened in 2022.

Nixon has answers to exactly none of that.

The DSA is running a national playbook in Florida's most expensive Senate race of 2026, and it only works if nobody asks follow-up questions.

Nixon can never engage the substance, because engaging the substance means explaining why a place of worship got administratively approved in 2022 without a full commissioner vote, why residents weren't properly notified, and why a school and day care got added through a separate hearing in 2023 – none of which has a good answer.

So she calls the room bigots and flies home.

Florida hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate in 14 years.

She does have Bernie Sanders and $265,000.

Ashley Moody has $8.5 million and Florida.
