A crazy thief committed a shocking crime.
And he used his mama’s rental car to finish the job.
But then the thief led police on a high-speed chase in his mama’s rental car but never expected this to happen next.
The golden key
Some thieves are brilliant.
Ruthless, but brilliant.
They find ways to stake out places and steal without ever being caught.
Or they embezzle money and scam people while flying under the radar.
But then there are crooks like Florida man Ryan Aheran, who thought he could use a U.S. Postal Service key to steal over 1,000 pieces of mail and not get caught.
Messing with the mail is no joke.
It is not a small misdemeanor.
Thieves who steal mail face a federal felony and jail time.
Yet somehow Aheran thought he was “smart enough” to use a master U.S. Postal Service key multiple times to steal mail from people and not get caught.
But Aheran was busted alright.
And what police found in his car was even more shocking.
Missing mail and tracking devices
Orlando business owners reported multiple times that their mail was getting stolen, the Miami Herald reported.
But with no visible signs of forced entry, it looked like someone on the inside was doing the job, or at least had a master key.
Postal inspectors were determined to get to the bottom of the stolen mail, so they placed a tracking device in a mailbox to catch the crook, and it worked.
Thinking he could carry out his little scheme forever, Aheran had no idea when he broke into the mailbox at 4am that authorities were now tracking him.
But once he figured it out, he tried to outsmart them, though he miserably failed.
Like a maniac, Aheran started driving 100 miles per hour, leading police on a high-speed chase, the Miami Herald reported.
He then ditched the car and started running through the neighborhood in between houses, but one resident spotted him and promptly called 911.
Police searched the ditched car and found trash bags full of stolen mail.
And not just one or two pieces of mail.
Instead, police found over 1,000 pieces of stolen mail in the car, the Miami Herald reported.
Crazy!
It is mind-blowing Aheran stole 1,000 pieces of mail and thought he would not get caught.
But police were even more stunned when they found out the car was not even his but his mother’s rental car.
Guns and stolen credit cards
A few weeks after police chased Aheran at nearly 100 miles per hour, they finally found him.
Law enforcement officers pulled over a vehicle with Aheran riding in it and learned he was still carrying around other people’s mail (and credit cards) along with cash and a gun, the Miami Herald reported.
Aheran now faces serious time for all his crimes, and his mama will not be able to save him now.
