A top DeSantis staffer made this teachers union boss regret picking a fight with the Florida Governor

Ron DeSantis is pushing for major educational reforms in Florida.

He’s determined to break Big Labor’s stranglehold over the system.

And a top DeSantis staffer made this teachers union boss regret picking a fight with the Florida Governor.

Big Labor is the most powerful force in Democrat politics.

During the pandemic, Joe Biden and the Democrats left it up to the teachers union to draft the official CDC COVID guidelines for government schools.

Of course, the teachers union included mask mandates and other restrictions in their guidelines, with American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten pushing the CDC to require mask mandates in all schools nationwide.

The union bosses are so powerful that during the 2022 election Charlie Crist selected Karla Hernancez-Mats, the Vice President for the American Federation of Teachers, to be his running mate for Lieutenant Governor.

Of course, the teachers union bosses despise Ron DeSantis for his pro-freedom policies and his parental rights in education agenda.

As part of his 2022 educational reform package, DeSantis is proposing “paycheck protection” legislation that prohibits the government from deducting union dues from teachers’ paychecks.

Instead of automatically deducting the dues, under “paycheck protection” the teachers would need to write checks to the unions if they wanted to.

DeSantis said paycheck protection laws would guarantee “a more accurate reflection of who is interested in this [teachers union] or not.”

He also indicated setting a threshold for unions to represent teachers, which would involve at least 50 percent of teachers being members of the unions.

American Federation of Teachers union boss Randi Weingarten recently took a swipe at DeSantis on social media.

“DeSantis should be fixated on the cost of living issues in Fla – housing is unaffordable, home insurance even worse, but instead he is exanding gun access, defunding, public schools, & banning everything he dislikes – teachers, journalists & the vulnerable,” Weingarten tweeted on Sunday.

Weingarten’s outrageous claims and her misspellings and misplaced commas generated criticism on Twitter given she is a national teachers union boss.

One of those critics was DeSantis Deputy Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern, who responded by pointing out the number of parents fleeing states like New York and relocating to Florida.

“Randi should be fixated on why so many parents left NY for FL,” Redfern tweeted. “Maybe it’s because they wanted to be as far away as possible from schools where Randi has influence.”

Eventually the Left will learn that picking a fight with Ron DeSantis is never a good idea.
