An ad exec made one move off a Florida rooftop bar that just cost him dearly

Florida is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to bizarre criminal behavior.

The Sunshine State’s reputation for strange arrests is well-earned after decades of headline-grabbing incidents.

And an ad exec made one move off a Florida rooftop bar that just cost him dearly.

New York Ad Exec Takes Golden Shower Deal After Rooftop Bar Incident

Matthew Day thought he was having just another night out in St. Petersburg, Florida last July.

The 30-year-old New York advertising executive was hanging out at The Landing, a downtown rooftop bar that markets itself as “an elevated Hang Out, Balcony Bar.”

What happened next at 1:30 AM earned Day a trip to jail and six months later landed him in court cutting a deal.

Police say Day pulled his penis out of his shorts and urinated from the rooftop balcony onto the sidewalk below.

Several innocent people walking by got struck with urine in what became Florida’s version of a golden shower.

Security spotted Day relieving himself and escorted him straight into police custody.

Cops noted Day showed clear signs of alcohol influence when they arrested him.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and released on $500 bond.

Now Day just reached a pre-trial intervention agreement with prosecutors that a judge signed off on this week.

Day Gets Community Service and Alcohol Ban Under Deal Terms

Day accepted responsibility for his rooftop bathroom break as part of the agreement.

He’ll perform 50 hours of community service to make up for raining urine on unsuspecting pedestrians.

The deal requires Day to undergo alcohol evaluation and counseling.

He’s banned from using alcohol or any mind-altering substances during the six-month agreement term.

Day also can’t enter bars or clubs while the agreement is active.

He’ll pay supervision and prosecution fees on top of the community service hours.

The pre-trial intervention program is designed for first-time offenders facing misdemeanor or lower-level felony charges in Florida.

Defendants who successfully complete the program get their charges dismissed without a conviction on their record.

But the arrest still shows up on background checks even after the case is closed.

Day is a Penn State graduate who co-founded Ribeye Media in 2023.

The New York advertising technology company describes itself as a “unified ad workflow platform built for local media.”

Day serves as Ribeye’s “Head of Client Success” according to his LinkedIn profile.

Court records list him as a Hoboken, New Jersey resident.

His LinkedIn page originally contained his full name but was shortened to just “Matthew D.” after the arrest made headlines.

Day joins a long line of people who learned the hard way that Florida takes public urination seriously.

The Landing bills itself as an upscale rooftop venue, but apparently not upscale enough to have adequate bathroom facilities.

Or maybe Day just couldn’t be bothered to walk the 20 feet to the actual restroom.

Either way, several innocent people got an unwanted shower from 15 feet up.

The bar’s security didn’t waste any time handing Day over to police once they caught him in the act.

Florida law allows cities to set their own rules on public urination beyond state statutes.

St. Petersburg clearly takes it seriously enough to arrest people and prosecute cases.

Day got off relatively easy with the pre-trial deal compared to what he could have faced.

A disorderly conduct conviction could have meant up to 60 days in jail under Florida law.

The community service and alcohol counseling requirements are a slap on the wrist by comparison.

But Day’s advertising career probably took a bigger hit than any legal penalty could deliver.

Having “urinated on people from rooftop bar” attached to your name doesn’t exactly scream professional success.

His company Ribeye Media hasn’t commented publicly on the incident or the plea deal.

Day now has six months to complete his community service, stay sober, and avoid bars and clubs.

If he successfully completes the program, the charges get dismissed and he can move on with his life.

But the internet never forgets, and neither will the people who got hit with his golden shower that night.

Day’s case wraps up what has to be one of the strangest advertising executive arrests in recent Florida history.

And that’s saying something in a state where bizarre arrests are practically a daily occurrence.
