The Left’s woke ideology is like a mind virus that destroys every institution it gets hold of.
Ron DeSantis is fighting to keep wokeism from gaining a foothold in Florida.
But now an Obama-appointed judge just handed down a ruling to stop Ron DeSantis from enforcing a key part of his Stop WOKE Act.
Ron DeSantis is the one Republican Governor who is willing to take on the Left’s woke ideology.
DeSantis signed legislation removing Critical Race Theory from Florida’s schools, prohibiting biological males from participating in women’s sports, and making sure leftists can’t indoctrinate children with their radical transgender agenda.
One of the biggest moves DeSantis made was signing the Stop WOKE Act into law.
The Stop WOKE Act is a six-point plan that bans Critical Race Theory in classrooms and in corporate settings in Florida.
“In Florida, we will not let the far-left woke agenda take over our schools and workplaces,” DeSantis said in April when he signed the Stop WOKE Act. “There is no place for indoctrination or discrimination in Florida.”
But less than two months after the law took effect, an Obama-appointed judge just issued a preliminary injunction blocking the private employer provisions in the Stop WOKE Act.
“Nonprofit Protect Democracy filed the lawsuit challenging the law in June on behalf of honeymoon registry technology company Honeyfund and Ben & Jerry’s franchisee Primo Tampa, both of whom wished to require employee training prohibited by the law,” The Hill reported.
“The group also challenged the law on behalf of workplace diversity and inclusion consulting company Collective Concepts and its co-founder Chevara Orrin,” The Hill wrote.
In a 44-page decision handed down on Thursday, Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker called the law “bordering on unintelligible” and turned “the First Amendment upside down.”
“In the popular television series Stranger Things, the ‘upside down’ describes a parallel dimension containing a distorted version of our world,” Walker wrote in the ruling, referencing the science fiction Netflix show. “Recently, Florida has seemed like a First Amendment upside down. Normally, the First Amendment bars the state from burdening speech, while private actors may burden speech freely. But in Florida, the First Amendment apparently bars private actors from burdening speech, while the state may burden speech freely.”
Of course, this is not the first time Judge Walker blocked legislation signed by DeSantis.
Last May, DeSantis signed legislation that ratchets up voter ID requirements, prohibits mass mailing and collection of ballots – a process known as “ballot harvesting” – and decreases the availability of drop boxes across the state.
After leftist filed a lawsuit over it, Judge Walker handed down a ruling striking down the law.
However, DeSantis appealed the ruling.
And three Donald Trump-appointed judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit revived the law and suspended the “preclearance” regime forcing Florida to seek the Court’s review on voting laws over the next decade.
Woke Judge Walker is once again trying to block part of DeSantis’ agenda.
But Ron DeSantis is a fighter.
And just like he did the last time Judge Walker ruled against his election integrity law, DeSantis is appealing the ruling stopping parts of the Stop WOKE Act from taking effect.
