Anna Paulina Luna has had it with Democrats breaking the law.
She went no-holds-barred on them.
And Anna Paulina Luna forwarded one bad Democrat crime to Pam Bondi.
Sanctuary city mayors are getting referred to the Justice Department for prosecution
House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-KY) held a hearing with four Democrat mayors of sanctuary cities about their refusal to comply with federal immigration law.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson were grilled about their cities’ lack of cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) pressed the Democrat mayors about their violations of federal law.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said that law enforcement in her city does not ask for or collect information on the immigration status of citizens they encounter.
Luna reminded Wu that cities cannot cut off ICE and federal law enforcement about the immigration status of their residents.
The Florida lawmaker asked Johnson if he thought Chicago’s sanctuary city law attracted illegal aliens.
Johnson denied that illegal aliens came to his city because of the law.
He added that Chicago follows all state and federal laws.
The Democrat mayors tried to blame the immigration system for illegal aliens pouring into their cities.
Luna warned them that they were breaking federal laws with their cities’ sanctuary policies.
“You all speak about a broken immigration system, and yet here you guys are aiding and abetting in that entire process,” Luna said. “I do not think you guys are bad people, but I think you are ideologically misled, which is why, unfortunately, based on your responses, I’m going to be criminally referring you to the Department of Justice for investigation.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi is already suing Chicago and New York City over their sanctuary city laws.
Luna’s recommendation does not mean that the Justice Department will investigate the Democrat Mayors, but the Trump administration is eager to crack down on sanctuary cities for impeding deportations.
Democrat mayors break federal immigration law
Luna pointed out to the mayors that they were violating federal law by enforcing sanctuary policies.
“After this line of questioning, it’s very clear that these policies that you will have all implicated are active and alive and well in your cities, are in direct violation with US Title 8 code, subsection 1324, and is a federal offense,” Luna explained.
She argued that the public was fed up with illegal immigration and government officials looking the other way on it.
“But you all speak about a broken immigration system, and yet here you guys are aiding and abetting in that entire process,” Luna stated. “I want to be very clear about something open border policies, which is something that you guys are talking about hurts people on both sides, including the people that are coming here illegally and then American citizens as well.”
Democrat mayors were used to getting a free pass for sanctuary city laws.
That is ending under the Trump administration.
