Former President Bill Clinton is trying to defend Joe Biden’s competency during his time in the White House.

Clinton calls Biden capable

During an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, Clinton claimed that Biden was a capable President who was always “on top of his brief” during their interactions.

“I thought he was a good president. The only concern I thought he had to deal with was, could anybody do that job until they were 86? We’d had several long talks. I had never seen him and walked away thinking, ‘He can’t do this anymore,'” Clinton said.

The 78-year-old former President insisted that Biden, 82, was fit for office despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary that eventually forced him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race after his disastrous debate performance.

“I didn’t know anything about any of this, and I haven’t read the book. I saw President Biden not very long ago, and I thought he was in good shape,” Clinton added, referring to a new book by journalists Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper titled “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”

Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business and blasted Clinton for this revisionist history of Biden’s cognitive abilities.

“Bill Clinton’s lying. Let’s just be honest. He’s lying, frankly, again. Joe Biden was not capable of doing the job. We all know this,” Donalds told host Stuart Varney.

Donalds questions Biden’s physical stamina

The Florida Congressman didn’t just question Biden’s mental capabilities but also his physical stamina for the demanding job of President.

“It’s not just his mental capabilities; in my view, it’s also his physical capabilities. He wasn’t able to hold long extended meetings with members of Congress, and it’s Democrat members of Congress, Republican members of Congress, Republican leadership. He wasn’t able to do it,” Donalds explained.

Donalds painted a troubling picture of the former administration’s efforts to prop up Biden, detailing how his staff would shield him from situations that might expose his limitations.

“They would send him out there every now and again to do a speech or to speak to the press, and if the press started asking too many questions, his staff would come in and break it up,” Donalds continued.

The Congressman went further, sharing insider accounts of Biden’s meetings with congressional leadership where his limitations became painfully apparent.

“I’ve heard the stories that when he was meeting with the Four Corners — that’s the Speaker, the Senate Majority Leader, and the Minority Leader in both chambers — if he got off script, got off his note card that the staff gave him, they would get him back on script or get him out of the room and end the meeting,” Donalds revealed.

Donalds didn’t mince words about what he believes was a deliberate cover-up of Biden’s condition.

“They lied to the American people. They covered up the fact that Joe Biden was not capable of doing the job, and that’s why the Oversight Committee is going to investigate,” he stated.

This isn’t the first time Donalds has spoken out about Biden’s fitness for office.

He previously described Biden as a victim of “elder abuse” and claimed that the use of an autopen to sign bills and executive orders was “a worse scandal than Watergate.”

The controversy comes as both Clinton and Biden face questions about their own health.

During the same CBS interview, Clinton discussed a recent health scare where he “lost his balance” and was hospitalized for severe dehydration.

“When you’re older, you have to be more careful to stay hydrated,” Clinton said, his voice noticeably raspy during the interview.

While the Democrats try to downplay Biden’s obvious decline during his presidency, Republicans like Donalds are determined to hold them accountable for what they see as a deliberate deception of the American people.

It seems Clinton, like many Democratic allies, is trying to salvage Biden’s legacy while ignoring the serious questions about his fitness that ultimately torpedoed his re-election bid and handed the presidency back to Donald Trump.
