Canadians are furious at the United States over Donald Trump.
They were given something else to be mad about.
And Canadians were fuming after Ron DeSantis dropped this fact about Florida.
Ron DeSantis mocks tourists boycotts by Canadians
President Donald Trump has ruffled feathers in Canada by slapping the country with tariffs over their government’s failure to stop the flow of illegal aliens and fentanyl into the United States.
Trump has referred to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor” and called Canada the 51st state.
Canadians are up in arms and have threatened to boycott American goods and cancel tourism to the United States.
Some Canadians are refusing to buy a single American product or travel to the United States until Trump is out of office.
Florida is a popular tourist destination for Canadians looking to escape the country’s brutal winters.
The tourism industry is the lifeblood of the Sunshine State’s economy.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dismissed the threat of a boycott of snowbirds from Canada during his State of the State address.
“[Businesses] have flocked to our state, and investment to Florida surged,” DeSantis said. “We continue to set tourism records; 2024 saw more than 142 million visitors come to the state of Florida.”
“This includes 3.3 million visitors from Canada. That’s not much of a boycott, in my book,” DeSantis added.
Canadians do not have anywhere warm to travel to in their country.
DeSantis dismissed the threat of a Canadian boycott.
“They always say people are going to stop going to Florida. Every time they announce a boycott, we end up setting a new tourism record,” DeSantis said.
Left-wing activists have threatened to boycott tourism in Florida under DeSantis for years over his conservative policies for years.
The NAACP issued a travel advisory warning tourists not to vacation in Florida after DeSantis outlawed critical race theory from being taught in schools.
Florida continues to break tourism records under DeSantis despite the Left’s boycotts.
Ron DeSantis wounds Canadian pride
DeSantis invited Canadians to come to Florida to see what a hockey championship looks like.
“Maybe they wanted to get a glimpse of what a Stanley Cup-winning hockey team actually looks like,” DeSantis stated.
The Florida Panthers are the reigning National Hockey League (NHL) champions after they defeated the Edmonton Oilers in Game seven of the Stanley Cup finals last year.
Hockey is the national sport in Canada and a point of pride.
Canadians have been booing the National Anthem at NHL and NBA games since the tariff dispute with Trump began.
Hockey may be Canada’s national sport, but the Stanley Cup has resided in the United States for decades.
The Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian team to hoist the Cup when they defeated the Los Angeles Kings, led by Wayne Gretzky, in 1993.
A Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup since then.
Florida’s NHL teams have been among the most successful over the last decade.
The Tampa Bay Lightning won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021 while losing in the finals in 2022.
