Casey DeSantis is facing one big decision that Ron DeSantis never saw coming

Jul 10, 2024

Ron DeSantis has become America’s Governor with his wildly successful run leading Florida.

But his time in office is ending after the 2026 Election.

And Casey DeSantis is facing one big decision that Ron DeSantis never saw coming.

Casey DeSantis’ name floated as a possibility for Florida Governor

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has overseen an amazing political transformation of the Sunshine State from a swing state into a red state.

His time running the state is coming to an end in early 2027 because of term limits.

The red lean of Florida is expected to result in a large pool of Republican candidates vying to replace him as Governor.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Representatives Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Byron Donalds (R-FL), Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, and others could throw their hat in the ring.

But one name continues to come up in speculation about potential candidates, Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis.

She has played an active role in policy for her husband’s administration like the Hope Florida program that replaces welfare with private charity.

And the Florida First Lady was an active surrogate for her husband on the campaign trail during his Presidential campaign.

Former National Review editor Neal B. Freeman suggested that Florida Republicans consider another DeSantis in the Governor’s mansion.

“I have been approached in recent weeks by (possibly self-appointed) representatives of the gubernatorial hopefuls in Florida, a list currently in formation and including: Attorney General Ashley Moody; Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez; Ag Commissioner Wilton Simpson; CFO Jimmy Patronis; and U.S. representatives Michael Waltz, Byron Donalds, and Matt Gaetz,” Freeman wrote.

“Perhaps the GOP should avoid the political frottage of a crowded primary and simply clear a lane for Casey DeSantis,” Freeman added.

Limited polling of the 2026 GOP Primary suggests that the Florida First Lady would be a popular choice with Republican voters.

A Florida Atlantic University poll from June found that Casey DeSantis led the GOP Primary with 43% followed by Donalds with 19%.

That followed an April poll from the university that found that she led Gaetz in a head-to-head matchup 38% to 16%.

Casey DeSantis would have the name recognition and goodwill from her husband to start out any GOP Primary as a serious contender.

Casey DeSantis talks about speculation surrounding her running for office

Casey DeSantis called the discussion about her running for political office “humbling.”

And said it was a testament to the job that her husband has done as Governor during an interview on the Conservative Review podcast.

“I will tell you this, when people talk about me running for Governor, I think it speaks highly about the Governor himself,” Casey said. “I think when people see me, it is because they are so happy about everything that this Governor has done for the state of Florida.”

“And so when people start talking about, ‘Oh, you know, you should run,’ that’s because Governor DeSantis is a rock star and that’s because people are so proud of everything that he’s done for this state,” Casey added.

Ron DeSantis said that his wife’s interest in running for political office is “zero” after getting a front seat to the political circus.

But that will not stop speculation about her being a potential candidate for 2026.
