Ron and Casey DeSantis are the power couple of Florida politics.
Their political journey got an unexpected twist.
And Casey DeSantis was given some news that changed everything about her future.
Casey DeSantis is leading a poll for Florida Governor
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ time in office is coming to and end in January 2027 from term limits.
But that might not be the end of his time in the state capital of Tallahassee.
Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis has played an active role in his administration and his political career.
A new poll found that she would be in a strong position for the Republican Primary for Governor in the 2026 Midterm Election.
The University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL) asked voters in the state if they had a favorable opinion of potential Republican candidates for Governor.
Florida’s First Lady led the field with 57% of Republicans having a favorable opinion of her.
“Casey DeSantis was the top early pick for potential Republican primary candidates when we asked back in late 2023, albeit with only 22% support,” PORL director Dr. Michael Binder said.
No major candidates have officially been declared for the Florida Governor’s race next year.
The North Florida PORL poll also looked at Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), U.S. Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL), former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson
A total of 33% of Republicans had a favorable opinion of Gaetz.
A majority of the poll’s respondents had never heard of Donalds, Moody, and Simpson.
NBC News reported that major Republican donors were asking Casey DeSantis to consider a run for Governor earlier this year.
She has not been interested in running in the past but she is now more open to the possibility, according to the report.
Ron DeSantis acknowledged that people are interested in having his wife run for Governor during a recent interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
“People have been asking her to do this for so long,” DeSantis said. “She’s a force of nature. It’s not something that she’s seeking out. A lot of people are just concerned about the future of the state.”
Donald Trump drops a hint about an endorsement for Florida Governor
Florida has become an increasingly red state, and the winner of the Republican Primary would start out as a strong favorite in the general election.
President Donald Trump’s endorsement looms large over the Republican Primary.
Donalds hired Trump’s pollster from his last Presidential campaign in a sign that he is gearing up to run for Governor.
Trump announced on Truth Social that if Donalds ran he would get his endorsement.
“I know Byron well, have seen him tested at the highest most difficult levels, and he is a TOTAL WINNER!” Trump wrote. “As Governor, Byron would have a BIG Voice and would work closely with me to advance our America First Agenda.”
“Byron Donalds would be a truly Great and Powerful Governor for Florida and, should he decide to run, will have my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, BYRON, RUN!” Trump added.
Donalds was one of his top surrogates during the 2024 Election and led his outreach to black voters.
The Republican Primary for Governor in Florida could turn into a heavyweight fight.
