Coast Guard ships surged to Florida to stop this scary threat dead in its tracks

Jan 29, 2025

The Coast Guard sprang into action with a new sheriff in Washington, D.C.

It received its most important orders in years.

And Coast Guard ships surged to Florida to stop this scary threat dead in its tracks.

Coast Guard begins securing Florida from illegal immigration

President Donald Trump fired Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Linda Fagan on his first full day in office.

Fagan became the first woman to lead a branch of the military after she was promoted in 2022 under former President Joe Biden.

Trump’s Homeland Security Department cited her “failure to address border security threats” and “excessive focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.”

The President issued a slew of executive orders on his first day in office to crack down on illegal immigration.

Fagan’s firing was followed by the Coast Guard being deployed to potential hotspots for illegal immigration in Florida.

“Per the President’s Executive Orders, I have directed my operational commanders to immediately surge assets—cutters, aircraft, boats, and deployable specialized forces—to increase Coast Guard presence and focus,” acting Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Kevin Lunday said.

Coast Guard assets were deployed to South Florida to stop illegal immigration coming from the Caribbean and other maritime borders across the country.

Lundy said the surge was “to deter and prevent a maritime mass migration from Haiti and/or Cuba.”

Cuba threatens a mass migration event

Concerns have grown about a potential mass migration event from Haiti since last February when gang violence in the country spiraled out of control.

Haiti no longer has a functional government and most of the capital of Port-au-Prince is under the control of heavily armed gangs.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis deployed state assets to the Florida Keys in 2023 to deter illegal immigration via the ocean.

The number of Illegal immigrants trying to enter the country by boat dropped off because the Biden administration used the CBP One app. The app allowed Haitian and Cuban migrants to schedule asylum appointments at a port of entry through the southern border.

Anyone caught trying to enter the country illegally through the ocean was banned from entering for five years.

Trump canceled the CBP One app which has led to concerns about an uptick of illegal aliens trying to enter the country with a boat.

Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University interim director Sebastian A. Arcos told the Miami Herald that Trump and DeSantis are likely concerned about an increase in illegal aliens arriving in boats.

“I think Gov. DeSantis, who is trying to rally the Legislature to deal with immigration, might be concerned about that,” Arcos said.

DeSantis called a special session of the Florida Legislature to support the Trump administration’s plan to stop illegal immigration.

“Already the Cuban regime is muttering veiled threats about a potential ‘significant increase in migratory flows from Cuba to the U.S.,’ according to [Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s] tweets,” Arcos explained.

“There is little doubt the Cubans will try to do it again — it has always worked for them,” Arcos added. “It all depends on the new administration sending a firm and credible message of deterrence.”

The Trump administration is trying to get ahead of a problem before an uptick of illegal aliens trying to enter the country by boat begins.
