Woke corporations are learning a big time lesson they never expected.
It all started in Florida.
And Disney just found out why picking a fight with Ron DeSantis was their biggest mistake ever.
Disney is not yet done paying a price for trying to sexualize kids and pressure Florida into accepting the woke agenda.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation revoking Disney’s special privileges that allows the “House of Mouse” to essentially operate as its own government.
This backlash arose thanks to Disney trying to bully the Florida legislature and Governor DeSantis into dropping the Parental Rights in Education Bill, which prevented teachers from indoctrinating children in grades K-3 with woke poison about transgenderism and the homosexual agenda.
Now Missouri Senator Josh Hawley is getting into the act proposing legislation to end Disney’s – and other woke corporation’s – ability to exploit patent law to hang on to corporate trademarks long after it’s necessary.
Disney’s trademarks are set to expire in 2024 and Republicans are prepared to let Disney’s copyrights expire.
But Senator Hawley is prepared to go one step further.
“The age of Republican handouts to Big Business is over. Thanks to special copyright protections from Congress, woke corporations like Disney have earned billions while increasingly pandering to woke activists. It’s time to take away Disney’s special privileges and open up a new era of creativity and innovation,” Senator Hawley told Fox News digital.
Senator Hawley’s legislation would cap corporate trademarks at 56 years and work retroactively to free up copyrights and not allow woke corporations to coast under old laws.
“The ‘Copyright Clause Restoration Act of 2022’ would cap the length of copyrights given corporations by Congress to 56 years and retroactively implement this change on companies, including Walt Disney,” Fox News reported.
Under current law, Disney and other woke corporations are exploiting an old law to hang on to their copyrights for 120 years.
“According to Hawley’s office, Congress has used an old law, also known as the ‘Mickey Mouse Protection Act,’ in order to extend copyrights to corporations for up to 120 years,” Fox News also reported.
Conservatives are fed up with Big Business begging Republicans for tax cuts and then turning around and lobbying for the radical Left’s bizarre and creepy social agenda.
And conservatives at the state and federal level are prepared to fight back.
