Donald Trump had a Florida lawmaker shut down one fight with Democrats he never expected

Dec 27, 2024

Donald Trump has been in constant warfare against Democrats since he entered politics.

His political career was headed toward a major showdown.

And Donald Trump had a Florida lawmaker shut down one fight with Democrats he never expected.

Florida law proposed to stop local governments from interfering with a Presidential library

President-elect Donald Trump will go down as one of the most significant figures in American political history.

A Presidential library has become a tradition to honor the life and legacy of a Commander-in-Chief.

Trump has four more years in office before he must begin thinking about building his Presidential library.

One Florida lawmaker wants to take a potential future fight with Democrats off the soon-to-be 47th President of the United States plate.

State Senator Jason Brodeur (R-FL) is filing a bill for the upcoming session of the Florida Legislature that would allow the state to regulate Presidential libraries.

The bill would prevent local governments like cities and counties from passing regulations and ordinances about Presidential libraries.

Brodeur told Florida Voice’s Radio that the bill would prevent local governments from creating obstacles for a Presidential library.

“One of the things that I think happens, and far be it from me, to say that a local government would give a business owner a hard time in the permitting process, but we have Florida’s first U.S. President and the bill, I think rightly finds that there’s unique national institutions that this is something that we’ve never had before,” Brodeur explained.

Local government could not stop the future Trump Presidential library

Brodeur said that he didn’t want to have the construction of a future Presidential library “held up” because a local government “doesn’t like the number of trees that are on it, or the ingress or egress, or how tall a sign is.”

Trump could potentially build his Presidential library in Palm Beach County, Florida near his home at Mar-a-Lago.

He almost won the county in the 2024 Election but the local government there has historically been dominated by Democrats.

A local politician with a bone to pick against Trump could throw up all sorts of roadblocks to the construction of Trump’s Presidential library.

Brodeur dismissed concerns that locals could be upset that Trump’s library is an eyesore or does not fit in with the community.

“People might be concerned, except for the fact that this guy made billions of dollars making beautiful destinations like I’m not worried that he’s going to do something that’s going to screw anything up, if anything, it might unleash some more creativity,” Brodeur stated.

Donald Trump will not have to worry about building his Presidential library for years but he already has a start on the fundraising for it.

ABC News agreed to pay $15 million to a future Trump Presidential library or foundation as part of its settlement of a defamation lawsuit involving host George Stephanopoulos.

Trump can avoid a squabble with local Democrat politicians if Florida passes the bill cutting them out of the process.
