Sparks flew on Monday during Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing for his nomination as the next Secretary of Defense.
Hegseth punched back against the left-wing media’s smear campaign.
And Donald Trump played a round of golf with Ron DeSantis that will have Pete Hegseth sweating bullets.
Confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees kicked off on Monday in the U.S. Senate.
Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth was first up on Monday as he is the most controversial pick.
A former Fox News star, Hegseth is an Army infantry soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two Bronze stars.
But Democrats and the media have spread sexual assault allegations, and claims of drinking on the job, to tank Hegseth’s nomination.
“President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, faced a Senate grilling on Tuesday as lawmakers determine whether they will vote in support of the nominee,” Fox News reported. “Hegseth faced intense questioning from Democrats in his Armed Services Committee hearing, including his previous comments related to women serving in military combat roles, and was also interrupted by protesters who disturbed the hearing at some points.”
When the controversy over Hegseth first started, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was rumored to be Trump’s second choice for Secretary of Defense.
And on the day after Hegseth’s hearing, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis played a round of golf together in Palm Beach.
“President-elect Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are meeting over a round of golf on Tuesday, as key decisions loom in the state they both call home,” POLITICO reported. “News of the golf meeting was confirmed by four people familiar with the details, granted anonymity to discuss internal planning,” POLITICO continued. “The Trump transition and the governor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.”
Of course, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis likely played golf to discuss Marco Rubio’s replacement in the Senate.
Trump picked Rubio to serve as Secretary of State.
DeSantis will select his replacement to fill the seat until 2026.
The Florida Governor is also making an extra effort to help Donald Trump carry out his deportation program.
Joe Biden opened the door to more than 12 million illegal aliens during his Presidency, including hundreds of thousands with criminal records.
Even though Rubio’s replacement was the topic of discussion, Pete Hegseth’s nomination certainly came up during the round of golf.
However, it appears likely that Hegseth will be confirmed as Secretary of Defense.
“The Trump transition proved today that it can impose its will on the Hill, even with a nomination that looked cooked before the holidays,” Axios reported. “Why it matters: Not a single Republican showed signs on Tuesday of opposing Defense nominee Pete Hegseth. Now he’s got a clear path to the Pentagon.”
Hegseth should be confirmed unless a Republican waffles on the vote.
But he will be sweating bullets until he is confirmed.
