Ron DeSantis has not been shy about criticizing some of the decisions made by Donald Trump during his first term in office.
DeSantis recently ripped Trump’s response to COVID and his failure to build a wall.
That’s why Donald Trump was floored when he heard Ron DeSantis on Fox News defending this one policy of his.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump are top rivals in the 2024 GOP Presidential Primary.
The two popular Republicans are former allies, as Donald Trump’s endorsement in 2018 helped catapult DeSantis to victory in the GOP Primary and on to the Governor’s Mansion that fall.
But Donald Trump started attacking DeSantis before last year’s Midterm elections in anticipation of him running for President.
At first, DeSantis mostly ignored Trump’s attacks.
But DeSantis is no longer holding back and has been critical of Trump on a number of issues like his handling of the pandemic, his failure to build the wall, and for not delivering on his promise to drain the Swamp.
DeSantis recently appeared for an interview with Howard Kurtz on Fox News Channel’s MediaBuzz.
Last week, Putin publicly acknowledged Trump’s promise to end the war within 24 hours.
Putin said Trump “says he will resolve all burning issues within several days, including the Ukrainian crisis,” adding that “we cannot help but feel happy about it.”
“We hear that Mr. Trump says that he will solve pressing problems in a few days, including the Ukrainian crisis,” Putin said. “Well, this cannot but bring happiness. This is good.”
Of course, Democrats and RINOs quickly pounced at the opportunity to use Putin’s comments to push the narrative that he and Donald Trump are close friends and allies.
But Ron DeSantis defended Trump against these outrageous accusations.
“The idea that Trump is some type of lackey for Putin — that’s just false,” DeSantis began.
“He had a very, very strong Russia policy,” DeSantis continued. “He actually provided a lot of support, defensive support for Ukraine.”
DeSantis then mocked Democrats and RINOs who accuse Trump of supporting Putin for simply opposing funding Biden’s proxy war in Ukraine.
“And so I think the idea that somehow he wants to be buddy-buddy with Putin, I know there’s circles that say that, but I don’t really see that as being the case,” DeSantis said. “I think he’s been strong.”
Since Ron DeSantis is running against Donald Trump, a negative story about the former President would benefit his campaign.
But DeSantis is above stooping to the level of Democrats and RINOs.
And while DeSantis is not afraid to voice his criticism of Trump, he refuses to resort to underhanded smears for political gain.
