Ron DeSantis mostly ignored Donald Trump’s constant stream of attacks over the past few months.
But the Governor’s silence is over.
And Donald Trump will blow a gasket over what Ron DeSantis told a group of donors about the media.
The 2024 Presidential race is underway.
Joe Biden is facing a Primary challenge from Democrats Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
On the Republican side, Donald Trump is currently dominating the field, which gained a candidate on Friday when South Carolina Senator Tim Scott officially launched his campaign.
The one Republican who actually poses a threat to Donald Trump for the GOP nomination has not entered the race.
But after months of anticipation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to file his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) this week.
Polls currently show Ron DeSantis in a strong second place behind Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.
For the past months, DeSantis mostly brushed off Donald Trump’s nicknames and attacks.
On the few occasions where DeSantis responded, he simply pointed to the scoreboard on Election Day and highlighted his record of accomplishments.
But now Ron DeSantis is firing back at Trump ahead of his expected announcement next week.
On Thursday, DeSantis spoke with donors on a conference call organized by a Super PAC supporting him.
According to a New York Times reporter who listened in on the call, DeSantis told his donors that he, Trump, and Biden were the only three credible candidates for President.
And DeSantis believes he is the only one who can defeat Joe Biden.
“You have basically three people at this point that are credible in this whole thing,” DeSantis said. “Biden, Trump, and me,” he continued, before adding “and I think of those three, two have a chance to get elected President – Biden and me, based on all the data in the swing states, which is not great for the former President and probably insurmountable because people aren’t going to change their view of him.”
DeSantis cited the media’s obsession with attacking him in recent months as proof that the media is rooting for Trump in the Primary.
“The corporate media wants Trump to be the nominee,” DeSantis said.
