FEMA has been in the hot seat after the agency’s failures and politicization were exposed.
Business as usual is ending at the disaster relief agency.
And FEMA officials were shaking in their boots after Donald Trump dropped this hint.
Donald Trump suggests states could take over FEMA’s responsibilities
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) came under heavy fire after its botched response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton last year.
Western North Carolina was virtually ignored in the aftermath of the historic flooding caused by Helene.
Private relief efforts, like Samaritan’s Purse, beat FEMA to the scene and did much of the heavy lifting in the region.
A whistleblower came forward to reveal that FEMA relief workers were skipping homes with Trump signs and flags after the hurricanes. The presence of three Trump signs and a neighborhood was skipped entirely.
To make matters worse the agency was hijacked by the Biden administration to transport and care for illegal aliens who entered the country during the border crisis leaving FEMA in need of additional funding to handle last year’s hurricane relief.
President Donald Trump hinted that substantial changes are in store for the agency during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
He ripped FEMA for ignoring the storm victims in North Carolina.
“Well, they don’t care about North Carolina,” Trump said. “The Democrats don’t care about North Carolina. What they’ve done with FEMA is so bad. FEMA is a whole other discussion because all it does is complicate everything. FEMA has not done their job for the last four years. I had FEMA working really well.”
Trump argued that states should take the lead on a natural disaster before the federal government stepped in.
“We had hurricanes in Florida. We had Alabama tornadoes. But unless you have certain types of leadership, it really gets in the way,” Trump explained. “FEMA is going to be a whole big discussion very shortly. Because I’d rather see the states take care of their own problems.”
Los Angeles wildfires accelerate the need to change FEMA
Trump pointed to the looming battle over disaster relief for California after the Los Angeles wildfires.
“I will say that Los Angeles has changed everything. Because a lot of money is going to be necessary for Los Angeles. A lot of people on the other side want that to happen,” Trump stated.
He wants to make disaster relief in California conditional on the state implementing voter ID and improved water management in the state.
Using Oklahoma as an example, Trump said that while he loves the state for supporting him, they should be tasked with their own emergency relief.
“If they get hit with a tornado or something, let Oklahoma fix it,” Trump said.
The federal government would then come in with money under his plan.
“FEMA is getting in the way of everything,” Trump stated. “The Democrats actually use FEMA not to help North Carolina. It makes no sense.”
The Biden administration turned FEMA into another cog in its efforts to resettle illegal aliens.
Donald Trump and Congress need to make major changes to the agency to ensure that it is focused on a narrow mission of helping Americans in a quick and efficient manner.
