Florida AG James Uthmeier exposed this woke prosecutor’s dangerous plea deal that shows exactly why families aren’t safe

The soft-on-crime policies of woke prosecutors are getting Americans killed.

One Florida prosecutor has been playing catch-and-release with violent criminals for years.

But now Florida AG James Uthmeier exposed this woke prosecutor’s dangerous plea deal that shows exactly why families aren’t safe.

State Attorney Monique Worrell cuts sweetheart deals with violent criminals

Democrat State Attorney Monique Worrell of Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit has been giving violent criminals a pass for years.

Her latest outrage involves a man who tried to execute his ex-girlfriend in broad daylight.

The case reads like a horror movie script.

Alain Barrett spent an entire day hunting down his ex-girlfriend after their breakup.

He tracked her movements, asked people where she was, and stalked her throughout Central Florida.

Barrett finally found her sitting in the drive-thru at a Krystal Burger restaurant.

He pulled up next to her car and opened fire with a handgun.

Barrett unloaded 12 rounds into the vehicle, trying to murder the woman in cold blood.

Miraculously, she escaped without physical harm.

Investigators discovered bullets had penetrated her car’s air conditioning system, with one projectile lodged in the headrest mere inches from where her head had been.

This was clearly first-degree attempted murder – a crime that carries mandatory minimum sentences under Florida law.

But Worrell’s office cut Barrett a sweetheart deal that makes a mockery of justice.

Uthmeier exposes Worrell’s betrayal of Florida law

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier blasted Worrell’s handling of the Barrett case during a recent Florida TaxWatch event in Orlando.

He laid out exactly how Worrell betrayed the people of Central Florida and the will of the state legislature.

Uthmeier explained that Worrell reduced the charge from first-degree attempted murder with a firearm enhancement to second-degree attempted murder without the firearm component.

She also waived the mandatory minimum sentences that Florida lawmakers specifically created to keep dangerous criminals behind bars.

"This was first-degree attempted murder," Uthmeier stated. "But State Attorney Worrell pled it down, waived the mandatory minimums, and overrode the will of our state legislature. Citizens of Central Florida deserve better."¹

Barrett will now serve only 10 years in prison for trying to execute his ex-girlfriend with 12 gunshots.

Uthmeier described the horrific details that Worrell’s office apparently didn’t think warranted serious charges.

"A couple breaks up. An ex-boyfriend spends an entire day looking for his ex-girlfriend. He’s going to other people asking for her whereabouts. He’s literally hunting her throughout the day," Uthmeier told the crowd.²

"He pulls up next to her, finds her in a drive through a Krystal burger, and then pulls out a firearm and unloads 12 times, shooting her. By grace of God, she’s not killed, she’s not injured. But bullets are found in her air conditioning system. One is lodged in the seat back behind her head, several within the car. How is that not first-degree attempted murder?"²

Worrell’s pattern of protecting predators over children

The Barrett case isn’t an isolated incident – it’s part of a disturbing pattern.

Last month, Uthmeier revealed two shocking cases where Worrell refused to prosecute child predators.

In the first case, a man was caught masturbating while facing children at a public splash pad.

Video evidence and witness testimony made it an "open-and-shut case" according to Uthmeier.

But Worrell’s office declined to press charges.

"She gave this guy a free walk in the park, and now other kids are in jeopardy of having a tragic incident happen to them," Uthmeier said.³

The second case involved a man who possessed "tons of gruesome child pornography videos, not just images, but videos of toddlers getting raped and abused."³

Worrell dropped all charges against this monster, allowing him to attempt an escape to Canada.

Worrell fires back with personal attacks

Instead of defending her record, Worrell responded to Uthmeier’s criticism with juvenile personal attacks.

She called the Attorney General "a punchline in a job that demands serious leadership."⁴

Worrell claimed Uthmeier "struts and shouts as if volume can mask ignorance."⁴

She also dismissed Uthmeier’s expertise, suggesting his lack of prosecutorial experience before being appointed Attorney General undermines his criticism.

But name-calling doesn’t change the facts.

Barrett should have faced life in prison for attempting to execute his ex-girlfriend.

Child predators should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, not given free passes.

Worrell defended her decisions by claiming prosecutors must exercise "discretion" and evaluate whether "sufficient evidence exists."

"State Attorneys are constitutionally empowered to exercise discretion in determining when charges should be brought," she said in a statement.⁴

War over public safety

Conservative prosecutors like Uthmeier believe in holding criminals accountable and protecting law-abiding citizens whereas woke prosecutors like Worrell prioritize the "rights" of criminals over the safety of their victims.

Worrell won re-election in November 2024, but her soft-on-crime policies haven’t changed.

Uthmeier has sent prosecutors to help with Worrell’s case backlog and is actively reviewing her decisions.

When asked if he wants DeSantis to suspend Worrell again, Uthmeier focused on public safety rather than politics.

"We’re trying to identify cases where dangerous people are not getting the levels of prosecution that they deserve," he explained. "At the end of the day, we want to see dangerous people put away for as long as possible."⁵

The people of Central Florida elected Worrell, but they also deserve prosecutors who will protect them from violent criminals.

Until prosecutors start treating violent criminals like the dangerous predators they are, innocent Americans will continue paying the price for woke ideology run amok.
