The FBI is taking the lead on the investigation into the latest assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
Fears of a whitewash are growing after the politicized bureau got involved.
And Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody put the FBI on notice about the Trump investigation.
Florida launches investigation into the assassination attempt against Trump
For the second time in as many months, former President Donald Trump faced an assassination attempt.
Ryan Routh, 58 years old, set up a sniper’s nest at a chain link fence that runs along the sixth hole of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Secret Services who were scouting the next hole ahead of where Trump was playing spotted Routh’s scoped rifle peeking through the fence and opened fire.
Trump was 300 to 500 yards away from the would-be assassin when the gunfire broke out.
Investigations are still ongoing into the first assassination attempt against Trump at a campaign rally on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The Secret Service is being accused by members of Congress of stonewalling their investigation into the Butler rally.
Another whitewash into the investigation of the attempted assassination at Trump’s golf club could be on the way after the head of the FBI’s Miami Field Office Jeffrey Veltri, who is overseeing the case, was previously identified by whistleblowers for his extreme anti-Trump bias.
That is why Florida Governor Ron DeSantis launched a state investigation into the assassination attempt to get the public answers.
Florida’s investigation will restore faith in the system
DeSantis issued an executive order that put the Office of Statewide Prosecutor under the jurisdiction of Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody in charge of the state’s investigation into the assassination attempt against Trump at his golf club.
“As soon as this broke — and we knew that this happened on Florida soil and that Florida law enforcement officers were involved with the ultimate detention — he [DeSantis] was very much intent on making sure Florida investigators and Florida resources were added to this effort,” Moody told Florida’s Voice.
Moody said that Florida needs to run a parallel investigation to the FBI to restore the public’s faith in the justice system.
“He said, ‘Look, it’s not just about what charges can ultimately be pursued, what charges have the best chance of getting the maximum and the best penalty associated with them’ … a complementary effect, as that is, in this moment, where we are as a nation, as a state, and we both know and everyone knows [that] we need to do everything we can to bolster that faith and confidence in our criminal justice system as a whole,” Moody explained.
Routh was arrested on federal charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Florida is going to try to charge the would-be assassin with the stronger charge of attempted murder.
Moody noted the conflict of interest in the federal investigation with the FBI trying to throw the former President in jail while investigating the Trump assassination attempt.
The American people cannot be confident that the politicized FBI will conduct a thorough and fair investigation.
Florida could be the only chance for the public to learn the truth about what happened.
