An 82-year-old Florida man was enjoying a quiet evening at home when all hell broke loose.
What started as a typical Thursday turned into something that could only happen in the Sunshine State.
And Florida deputies faced down a 300-pound boar that made one man’s living room its personal kingdom.
Wild Boar Crashes the Party in Lehigh Acres
Edward Wells was settling in for his usual evening routine at his Lehigh Acres home on September 4th.
The 82-year-old was probably thinking about his nightly Ensure and maybe a few rounds of iPad jigsaw puzzles.
That’s when what sounded like a bomb going off shattered his peaceful night.
"At first, I thought my home was being bombed," Wells told reporters.¹
But it wasn’t enemy fire – it was something far more Florida.
A massive wild boar had decided Wells’ sliding glass door looked like an invitation and crashed straight through it into his living room.
"He busted through a whole glass door," Wells’ daughter Stacy explained.²
The 300-pound porker didn’t just break in and leave – it moved in like it owned the place.
For nearly 45 minutes, this uninvited guest just stood there in Wells’ living room, staring everyone down like some kind of pork-powered home invader.
When Bacon Fights Back
Here’s where things got really interesting.
The boar wasn’t content just destroying property – it went after Wells’ dog Bailey first.
After roughing up the family pet, this four-legged burglar decided to make itself comfortable and refused to budge.
Wells did what any sensible Florida man would do – he called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
"For about half an hour, 45 minutes, the pig just stood there," Wells said.³
The bodycam footage tells the whole story, and it’s something you’ve got to see to believe.
Deputies walked into what looked like the world’s most bizarre standoff – a 300-pound wild boar standing in someone’s living room while an 82-year-old man sat calmly in his chair like this was just another Tuesday in Florida.
"Right? That’s a big, mean, feral animal," a female resident can be heard saying on the deputy’s body camera footage.⁴
The deputy’s response? "It’s like a 300-pound sow."⁵
Law Enforcement vs. Pork Enforcement
Now here’s where our boys in blue earned their paychecks.
These deputies tried reasoning with a wild animal – and you can probably guess how well that went.
"Easy, easy," one deputy said as the boar charged straight at him.⁶
"You better stop it!" he shouted.⁷
But this wasn’t your typical domestic dispute call.
The boar made multiple charges at the officers, actually clipping at least one deputy in the legs.
They tried using rope to wrangle the beast – because apparently that’s what you do when a 300-pound pig decides your living room looks cozy.
"Good for them guys, man. I wouldn’t want to be doing that," Wells said about the deputies’ efforts.⁸
Eventually, after what looked like something out of a rodeo gone wrong, the officers managed to chase the boar back into the woods where it belonged.
Florida’s Wild Side Gets Wilder
Look, this isn’t just some random weird Florida story.
This is what happens when urban sprawl meets Mother Nature, and Mother Nature shows up with an attitude problem.
Wild boars have been terrorizing Florida for centuries – we’re talking since Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto brought them here back in 1539.
These things live in all 67 Florida counties now, and they’re not exactly model citizens.
They can weigh over 150 pounds, measure up to 6 feet long, and they’ve got the temperament of a DMV clerk on a Monday morning.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission warns these animals carry diseases that can kill your dog – pseudorabies is always fatal to dogs, even though it won’t hurt humans.
They also spread swine brucellosis, which can definitely hurt humans if you’re not careful.
Here’s the kicker – you can hunt these things year-round without a license, no bag limit, any time of day or night.
That’s how much of a problem they are.
The Real Heroes of This Story
You want to know what really stands out here?
Edward Wells, 82 years old, sitting in his chair while a 300-pound wild boar is standing in his living room, and he’s just… waiting it out.
Every morning, this man texts his daughter to let her know he’s still alive – and on Thursday, he had quite the story to tell.
His dog Bailey needed stitches but survived the encounter.
Wells? He went right back to his usual routine like nothing happened.
And those Lee County deputies – they signed up to serve and protect, but I bet "wrestling wild boars in living rooms" wasn’t in the job description.
They could have just called animal control and waited.
Instead, they walked into that house and faced down a 300-pound animal that had already proven it wasn’t going quietly.
That takes guts, and frankly, that’s the kind of law enforcement we need more of.
The boar is still out there somewhere, probably looking for its next glass door to demolish.
But thanks to some brave deputies and one tough-as-nails Florida senior citizen, this story has the kind of ending we can all appreciate.
