Florida gave the FBI one tough message about the Trump assassination attempt

Oct 1, 2024

Florida launched its own investigation into the latest attempt on Donald Trump’s life.

Investigators are already hitting roadblocks from the Biden-Harris administration.

And Florida gave the FBI one tough message about the Trump assassination attempt.

FBI and Florida butting heads over Trump investigation

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis did not trust the FBI and Justice Department that persecuted former President Donald Trump to manage the investigation into the latest assassination attempt against him at his Florida golf club.

That is why I issued an executive order empowering Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to conduct a parallel investigation.

Already the FBI is trying to freeze out Florida’s investigators.

DeSantis revealed that Florida law enforcement was blocked from entering the crime scene at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida where the gunman waited for the former President to play through.

“No, they’re not being cooperative,” DeSantis told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “Yes, I am concerned. For example, we were rebuffed, our investigators were rebuffed, just going to the fence line outside of Trump International Golf Club.”

DeSantis was not deterred by the Biden-Harris Justice Department trying to stonewall Florida law enforcement.

“I think [the federal government has taken] the position they don’t want the state of Florida to be involved in this,” DeSantis said. “But here’s the thing, there were multiple violations of Florida law across multiple jurisdictions. We have a duty to bring the appropriate charges, and we also have a duty to inform the public about how this happened.”

Florida and the FBI could be headed for a showdown

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Markenzy Lapointe asking if Florida would be allowed to conduct its parallel investigation or if state law enforcement would be blocked from interviewing witnesses and evidence.

She said that federal agents have told her that the Justice Department views Florida’s investigation as a violation of federal law.

Federal authorities cited a law that makes an assassination attempt against a major party Presidential candidate a federal crime.

“To avoid any misunderstanding between our agents, I write to advise you that the State of Florida does not believe this provision has been properly invoked,” Moody wrote.

She noted that concurrent federal and state investigations are commonplace.

Moody noted that Florida’s investigation would be good for transparency.

“Given all the public scrutiny on the FBI, DOJ, and the Secret Service, one would think that having Florida conduct its own investigation alongside federal agencies would mitigate public concern regarding the credibility and reliability of these institutions and would be welcome by the federal government,” Moody added.

Moody noted that FBI special agent Jeffrey Veltri has serious questions about his ability to be impartial in the investigation.

An FBI whistleblower revealed to the House Judiciary Committee last year that Veltri was ordered to scrub his social media of unhinged anti-Trump posts by FBI leadership before he could be promoted to lead the bureau’s Miami field office.

Florida’s investigation could be shut down before it gets off the ground because of FBI interference.
