Joe Biden just made one phone call that Ron DeSantis never expected him to make

Ron DeSantis and Joe Biden are political enemies.

They’ve been at war since the COVID pandemic.

But Joe Biden just made one phone call that Ron DeSantis never expected him to make.

Hurricane Ian made landfall on Florida’s coast Wednesday as a Category Four hurricane with winds up to 155 mph.

Ian produced catastrophic storm surges, destructive winds, and major flooding.

Before the storm hit Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency and issued mandatory evacuation orders in preparation for the storm.

DeSantis also had more than 5,000 National Guard troops activated, 40,000 electricity workers on standby, and 19,000 “restoration personnel” from over 30 states at the Columbia County fairgrounds ready to help with recovery efforts.

“You’re going to have millions without power in this state within the next 48 hours – no question,” DeSantis said.

“This is a major, major storm,” he added. “It will have major, major impacts.”

In the days leading up to Ian’s landfall, DeSantis was curious if Joe Biden was going to play politics with FEMA and get in the way of disaster relief in an effort to punish him for opposing the regime’s agenda.

“I’m happy to brief the President if he’s interested in hearing what we’re doing in Florida,” DeSantis said at a news conference Tuesday.

“My view on all this is like, you’ve got people’s lives at stake, you’ve got their property at stake, and we don’t have time for pettiness,” he continued. “We’ve got to work together to make sure we’re doing the best job for them, so my phone line is open.”

The President apparently got DeSantis’ message and on Wednesday Joe Biden said he spoke to the Governor “for some time” about helping with the disaster recovery efforts.

“Message has been absolutely clear, is that we are on the alert, and in action,” Biden said. “We’ve approved every request Florida has made for temporary assistance, emergency assistance, and long-term assistance that I’ve received.”

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced publicly on Twitter that the President called DeSantis and spoke with him on the phone.

“President Biden spoke this evening with Gov. DeSantis of Florida to discuss the steps the Federal government is taking to help Florida prepare for Hurricane Ian,” Jean-Pierre tweeted. “The President and the Governor committed to continued close coordination.”

DeSantis acknowledged the phone call and said he was “appreciative of the Biden administration for responding in this time of need.”

“The effects of this are going to be broad and we appreciate the Biden administration’s consideration to the people of Florida during this time of need,” DeSantis said.
