Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Joe Biden are frequently sparring with each other.
But their contentious relationship added another twist.
And that’s because Joe Biden took everyone by surprise when he revealed this truth about Ron DeSantis.
Hurricane Idalia slammed into Florida’s Big Bend region on the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 hurricane leaving a wake of destruction from high winds, rain, and storm surge.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis left the campaign trail to return home to manage the state’s emergency response to the storm.
The state began working around the clock to help the areas that were impacted by the storm.
A reporter decided to try and politicize a question about the hurricane to generate a headline during a press conference held by President Joe Biden.
“Governor DeSantis is also running for President. You are running for re-election,” a reporter said. “Did you sense any politics in your conversations with him about [Hurricane Idalia]?”
“No, believe it or not,” Biden replied. “I know it sounds strange, especially how the nature of politics today. But I was down there in the last major storm, I spent a lot of time with him walking from community to community making sure he had what he needed to get it done.”
DeSantis has been widely lauded for his stellar leadership in responding to hurricanes.
He put politics aside to keep a laser focus on helping the communities that were impacted by the hurricane.
“I think he trusts my judgment and my desire to help and I trust him to be able to suggest what he needs, that this is not about politics, this is about taking care of the people of the state,” Biden added.
DeSantis was asked about the President’s comments when visiting the storm-ravaged town of Perry.
“We have to deal with supporting the needs of the people who are in harm’s way or have difficulties,” DeSantis said. “And that has got to triumph over any type of short-term political calculation or any type of positioning. This is the real deal. You have people’s lives that had been at risk.”
He added that people’s lives had been turned upside down by the hurricane and getting them help was his top priority.
“So, we’re going to work together from local, state, federal, regardless of party to be able to deliver results for the people in their time of need,” DeSantis explained.
The Florida Governor delivered another successful emergency response to the hurricane that saw power restored quickly to many areas along with immediate work beginning on repairing roads and bridges.
The superb leadership of DeSantis in helping Floridians in the aftermath of the hurricane was a stark contrast to the political games that Biden played during last year’s Hurricane Ian.
Biden skipped the customary call to the Governor before the storm to coordinate the emergency response to call the mayors of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater.
Ron DeSantis shines in moments of crisis, like a hurricane, by delivering competent and effective leadership for his state.
