Kevin McCarthy was fuming when Ron DeSantis told House Republicans exactly how to stop the reckless spending

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy previously surrendered on the debt ceiling and handed Joe Biden a blank check to use until January of 2025.

Another battle over spending is on the horizon.

And Kevin McCarthy was fuming when Ron DeSantis told House Republicans exactly how to stop the reckless spending.

September 30 is the deadline for Congress to pass a spending bill to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is pushing for a short-term Continuing Resolution to fund the government through early December.

But the national debt is now approaching $33 trillion.

And conservatives are demanding McCarthy use the power of the majority to force Democrats to fund border security measures, and to address the weaponization of government and the Left’s woke ideology in the military.

The House Freedom Caucus has already expressed its opposition to any type of short term CR.

“We refuse to support any such measure that continues Democrats’ bloated COVID-era spending and simultaneously fails to force the Biden Administration to follow the law and fulfill its most basic responsibilities,” the Freedom Caucus wrote in a statement. “Any support for a ‘clean’ Continuing Resolution would be an affirmation of the current FY 2023 spending level grossly increased by the lame-duck December 2022 omnibus spending bill that we all vehemently opposed just seven months ago.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis agrees with the Freedom Caucus and is using his platform as a top Presidential contender to urge Republicans to use the power of the purse against Biden’s agenda.

“On the government funding, I mean the way I look at it is this government is spending way too much money, they’ve locked in the covid era levels of spending which are totally unsustainable so they should absolutely have a big fight over righting that ship,” DeSantis told Fox News. “But then you also have the issue of their funding of really bad policies.”

“So for example, Biden’s border policies are causing a massive influx of illegal aliens, they’re causing a massive influx of fentanyl, human trafficking, sex trafficking, the Department of Justice and the FBI with the weaponization,” DeSantis declared.

He then ripped the federal government for “targeting observant Catholics as potential terrorists” and noted how “the FBI has targeted parents going to school board meetings,” before adding that “the power of the purse is really the way that you hold those agencies accountable.”

DeSantis said the bureaucracy is out of control and the spending is what created the Deep State.

“So some of the guys in the House like Chip Roy who are raising the alarm about this I think are right and I think that part of the reason our bureaucracy is so out of control and this Deep State has developed is because Congress has not been willing to use the power of the purse to discipline these agencies,” DeSantis concluded.

The Governor shared a clip of his interview on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Republicans need to fight over the federal government’s out-of-control spending,” he wrote. “Use the power of the purse to hold out-of-control federal agencies accountable.”
