Local residents humiliated a reporter looking to fuel a hit piece on Trump’s illegal alien arrests

May 5, 2025

A reporter got a brutal wake-up call when his plan to attack President Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown blew up in his face.

Patriotic Americans refused to play along with his scheme.

And local residents humiliated a reporter looking to fuel a hit piece on Trump’s illegal alien arrests.

Reporter caught red-handed seeking “chaotic” anti-Trump narratives

Tomas Rodriguez, a reporter for the Naples Daily News and The News-Press, was caught trying to manufacture controversy when he posted in the Lehigh Acres, FL Community Bulletin Board seeking specific reactions to immigration enforcement.

Rodriguez didn’t even try to hide his bias.

He openly admitted that he was “working on a story about the most recent anti-immigration operation” and was “looking for people in SWFL who would be willing to talk about the situation in a somewhat chaotic way.”

The reporter specifically targeted the “Hispanic population” for comments about the arrests, making it painfully obvious that he was fishing for negative reactions to the Trump administration’s successful immigration operation.

But Southwest Florida residents weren’t having any of it.

Locals shut down blatant propaganda attempt

The community bulletin board post quickly attracted over 60 comments, with locals blasting the reporter’s transparent attempt to create an anti-Trump narrative.

“So you [are] looking for people that [are] willing to talk about it on a chaotic way to fulfill your propaganda,” Marcelo Duelli Lopes wrote. “Because of people like you immigrants in this country [are] being generalized as bad people.”

Lopes didn’t stop there.

He added that “a lot of bad people come in. Causing chaos. The Democratic Party created this chaos.”

Another resident, James Fondell, called out the reporter’s intentions directly.

“If I’m reading this correctly, it does look like a hit piece,” he wrote. “If you break the law by being here illegally then yes you should be deported! It’s not fair to the people who waited and did it the right way!”

“‘A somewhat chaotic way’? In other words, you want an inflammatory story that riles people?” Willow Brook asked, seeing right through the thinly veiled agenda.

Operation Tidal Wave shows Trump’s promises in action

While the Fake News Media was busy trying to undermine it, “Operation Tidal Wave” delivered impressive results as part of President Trump’s commitment to securing America’s borders.

The operation, which resulted in nearly 800 illegal alien arrests, represented a groundbreaking “first-of-its-kind partnership” between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Florida law enforcement.

Governor Ron DeSantis worked with Florida’s Legislature, led by Senate President Ben Albritton and House Speaker Daniel Perez, to pass strong anti-illegal immigration legislation that gives state law enforcement greater authority in immigration enforcement.

The successful operation demonstrates that President Trump is wasting no time fulfilling his campaign promises to crack down on illegal immigration.

Americans reject media’s pro-illegal immigration narrative

Local residents made it clear that they support enforcing immigration laws and respect those who follow legal pathways to citizenship.

“I have close friends that went through all the red tape & proper channels to get loved ones & family into this country legally,” Mindy Schmidt wrote in response to the reporter’s inquiry. “It is disrespectful & a slap in the face to those that worked hard & paid thousands to do it right. If you are in this country illegally, you should be deported. Not given welfare, money & resources to be here.”

Other residents demanded honest reporting instead of predetermined narratives:

“How about report the news and not a scripted ‘chaotic’ response,” Sean Barney said.

“Let ICE [do] their job, stay out of it,” Robert Wilson added.

Maggie Gonzalez didn’t hold back.

“You mean the anti illegal immigrants?” she wrote. “That came to destroy our country while r@ping and murdering our women and children. Got everything free while the American citizens worked to support their families and paid taxes for the illegal immigrant freeloader criminals. Thank you ICE.”

Media runs biased article anyway

Despite the overwhelming rejection from local residents, the Naples Daily News eventually published a story with the biased headline: Shock and anger: Florida immigrant communities react to ‘Operation Tidal Wave.’

The article included contributions from Rodriguez and two other reporters.

Tellingly, the published story didn’t include any of the pro-enforcement comments from Southwest Florida residents that flooded the reporter’s original post.

Instead, it featured quotes exclusively from immigration advocates and those opposing the enforcement actions.

John Kisic summed up many residents’ feelings about the situation:

“This ‘writer’ is anti-American and using his position to prop up an agenda that we soundly rejected in the November election,” he said.
