Matt Gaetz made one big decision about his political future that has all hell breaking loose

Conservative firebrand Matt Gaetz is one of the rising stars in the Republican Party.

His political ambitions are rumored to be bigger than Congress.

And Matt Gaetz made one big decision about his political future that has all hell breaking loose.

Large field of GOP contenders expected to vie to replace Ron DeSantis

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will leave office after the 2026 Election because of term limits.

The Sunshine State has undergone a dramatic shift to right under his leadership from a swing state to one increasingly off the table for Democrats.

Florida Governor has become a plum job, and a large field of contenders is expected to compete in the GOP primary to replace DeSantis.

No one has officially entered the race yet, but a number of names have been rumored to be possible candidates.

And former President Donald Trump’s endorsement would loom large in a crowded GOP primary.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) would be a top contender if he threw his hat in the ring.

Politico reported last October that he and Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) are “two of the most prominent Republicans expected to run to succeed DeSantis.”

And NBC News reported that Florida political insiders claimed that Gaetz was a lock to run for Governor in 2026.

Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancé former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle “pre-endorsed” Gaetz for Governor during an interview last year.

Everything is seemingly in place for him to be a top-tier contender for the Republican nomination to succeed DeSantis.

Matt Gaetz’s dad spills the beans about him running for Governor

When the speculation about him running for Governor last year reached a fever pitch, Gaetz said he was not looking to do it.

“I’m not running for Governor,” Gaetz told CBS News. “I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.”

But he left the door open when the Tampa Bay Times asked him about it in May.

“President Trump keeps telling my wife she’d make a great First Lady of Florida. I keep telling him my only political focus is his re-election,” Gaetz said. “Without that, we don’t have a country.”

Don Gaetz, his father, is running for the State Senate in Florida.

He previously served as the President of the Florida Senate from 2012-14 before leaving office.

Gaetz echoed his son’s comments that Congress is where he wants to be.

“In our conversations, he’s 100% committed to the work he’s doing in Congress, he’s saying I’m right where I need to be now,” Don Gaetz said. “He believes the work he’s doing is important, even though he hates the Washington scene, and he loves Northwest Florida.”

But he left the door cracked open.

Gaetz told a reporter that nothing is certain about his son’s political future.

Matt Gaetz went from denying interest in running for Governor to not ruling it out completely.

There is a long way to go until 2026 and he is going to be the subject of rumors about running for Governor until then.
