Mike Pence appears to be planning a run for the White House in 2024.
The former Vice President is already taking swipes at his potential Republican opponents.
And Mike Pence put jaws on the floor when he likened Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Mike Pence is making the rounds in the media in preparation for a 2024 Presidential campaign.
Of course, Mike Pence has absolutely no path to victory for the Republican nomination.
He infuriated a large segment of Trump’s base by certifying the elections and with his comments about the events at the Capitol on January 6.
But while Pence avoids questions about Donald Trump, he apparently has no issue with going after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
During a recent interview with Yahoo! News, Pence claimed that Ron DeSantis used “government activism” in the same way as Gavin Newsom.
“I’m a limited government conservative, and I believe in private property, free enterprise,” Pence said. “My concern more broadly was just simply about taking action against a company in the wake of a political dispute, where the company had taken a different position than the state.”
Newsom recently pulled California out of a $54 million contract with Walgreens over the store’s refusal to provide abortion pills in states where it is illegal.
“California won’t be doing business with Walgreens — or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk,” Newsom tweeted. “We’re done.”
Pence compared DeSantis’ response to Disney opposing the Parental Rights in Education Bill to how Newsom is dealing with abortion pills in California.
“I have concerns about that in Florida,” Pence said. “I had the exact same concerns about California pulling a $54 million contract from Walgreens because Walgreens announced that they’ll not be distributing the abortion pill in 20 states where it would be illegal to do so,” he continued, before adding, “to me, it’s the same kind of government activism — one on the Right, one on the Left, and both are wrong.”
This is not the first time Pence criticized DeSantis for revoking Disney’s special privileges.
Last month Pence said that “going after (Disney’s) taxing authority . . . was beyond the scope of what I, as a conservative, limited-government Republican, would be prepared to do.”
Of course, limited government has nothing to do with offering special privileges and tax exemptions to well-connected corporations.
And it surely is not about allowing a massive corporation like Disney to have authority in education over parents.
Ron DeSantis is standing up for parental rights and taking on the powerful woke corporations.
And Mike Pence will live to regret attacking DeSantis on this issue.
