Nikki Fried just got called out for telling a big lie about Charlie Crist that could sink her campaign

Abortion is a sacred right in the Democrat Party.

During Primary races, Democrats often argue over who is the most pro-abortion candidate.

And Nikki Fried just got called out for telling a big lie about Charlie Crist that could sink her campaign.

Ron DeSantis is facing his first re-election as Governor this fall.

After his narrow victory in 2018, DeSantis has gained national prominence over his willingness to take on the Left and win.

Congressman Charlie Crist and Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried are the two Democrats running in the upcoming August 23 Primary for the opportunity to take on DeSantis in November.

Charlie Crist is currently leading in both the polls and in fundraising.

But with the August 23 Primary rapidly approaching, Nikki Fried is growing more desperate by the day, leading to her making all types of accusations about Charlie Crist in an effort to tear him down.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Fried tried to make abortion the top issue as a way for her to gain traction in the Primary battle.

“Charlie Crist is pro-life & his opponent is pro-choice. How about that?” Fried wrote on social media above a video comparing her position on abortion to Charlie Crist.

In the video, Crist is heard repeatedly saying, “Charlie Crist is pro-life. My opponent is pro-choice,” as images of the two candidates appear on the screen.

So far, the video has been viewed nearly 95,000 times.

However, there is one major problem with the video.

It’s not true.

Even the left-wing website PolitiFact fact-checked Nikki Fried’s claim as “mostly false.”

Fried’s campaign claims that Charlie Crist called himself “pro-life” as recently as April.

“Nikki Fried takes him at his word, and the word he uses is pro-life,” Caroline Korba, Fried’s Press Secretary, told PolitiFact.

But even this is a gross misrepresentation of what Crist said during the April 12 interview Fried’s campaign referenced.

“When I say I am pro-life, I mean I am for life, and I am for a woman’s right to choose and make her own decisions about her body,” Crist said in the interview Korba referenced.

Even though Fried’s video was labeled as “mostly false,” it did bring to light Charlie Crist’s mixed record on abortion over the years.

As a Republican State Senator, Charlie Crist said women, and not the government, should make the decision on whether or not to have an abortion.

In 1998, after voting for a ban on abortion later in pregnancy, Crist told the Tampa Bay Times that he was “pro-choice, but not pro-abortion.”

Crist used anti-abortion rhetoric on the campaign trail when he successfully ran as a Republican for Governor in 2006.

But as Governor, he vetoed legislation that would have required women to get an ultrasound before receiving an abortion.

Then, after leaving the Democrat Party in 2010, Crist published an op-ed in the Tampa Bay Times that his decision was fueled by the Party’s tendency to pitch “so far to the extreme Right on issues important to women.”

As a Democrat Congressman, Charlie Crist has voted pro-choice 100% of the time, earning him a 0% rating from the National Right to Life.

While Nikki Fried’s attacks against Crist may not work, they do create a division within the Party that will set up Crist or Fried for defeat in November.
