Florida has become ground zero for public nudity incidents.
Every week brings a new case of someone stripping down in public.
But one Christmas shopper's warning about a naked Florida man just saved lives at Hobby Lobby.
Last-minute Christmas shoppers flooded into the Hobby Lobby on 23rd Street in Panama City, Florida on Monday evening looking for holiday decorations and craft supplies.
Around 7:45 p.m., witnesses say they saw a man strip naked outside a nearby dental office.
Then he ran straight into the packed Hobby Lobby.
Zyreese Guy sprinted through the aisles completely nude, chasing terrified customers and employees through the store.
Shoppers fled for their lives as naked man went on rampage
Portia Mixon was shopping when the chaos erupted.
Employees immediately ran to the back of the store.
"All the employees ran to the back, and I said, Can I run back there with you?" Mixon told News 13.¹
She followed them to safety but Guy chased her down.
"I ran back there, and then he came right back there after me," Mixon recalled.
She tried escaping by running to the opposite side of the store.
Guy circled around and cornered her again.
"And then he came in a circle and ran right after me and grabbed me twice," Mixon said.²
Employees pulled Guy back and told her to run.
But he came after her again.
"And then all the employees yelled 'run, run, run,'" Mixon stated. "And so I just ran straight to the flower department."
Her boyfriend told her on the phone to "grab something sharp" to defend herself.
That's when police arrived and ended the nightmare.
Police needed two tasers to subdue the crazed suspect
Panama City police rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls.
Guy was still terrorizing customers when officers entered the store.
He pushed past someone trying to shield other shoppers and elbowed that person in the jaw.³
Officers deployed their tasers to stop Guy.
The first shot had no effect on him.⁴
Police hit him with a second taser that finally brought him down.
Even then, Guy refused to cooperate with police.
He locked his left arm under his body and fought officers trying to handcuff him.
Officers eventually got control and strapped Guy to a stretcher.
They rolled him out of the store and transported him to a local hospital.
Witness Billy Lee summed up what everyone was thinking.
"I was checking out in the line over here at the Hobby Lobby. And I turned around, and there was a butt naked guy coming at us," Lee told News 13.⁵
"I was like, I just wanted to leave. I don't need my gifts anymore. I'm good. I'll get them at Walmart," Lee added.
This wasn't Guy's first trip to Bay County Jail
Guy is a 31-year-old transient from Arizona.
But he's become very familiar to the Bay County Jail staff.
Jail personnel told reporters that Guy has been locked up there frequently over the last few months.⁶
He was charged with indecent exposure, battery, and resisting an officer without violence.
Guy is being held on a $35,000 bond.
This incident is just the latest example of Florida's growing public nudity crisis.
A naked man with an axe terrorized a Pinellas Park neighborhood in October.
Another naked Florida man was caught walking down a road in 36-degree weather in November claiming it was a "TikTok prank gone wrong."
A naked man was arrested at a crowded beach in April.
You can't even go Christmas shopping anymore without running into a naked lunatic.
Mixon's quick thinking and the warning from employees likely prevented a much worse outcome.
Guy grabbed her twice and physically assaulted another customer.
Who knows what he would have done if police hadn't arrived when they did.
The naked Florida man phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down.
And now it's invaded one of the last places families thought was safe during the holidays.
