Polls show Americans – as well as the majority of Democrats – do not want Joe Biden to run for reelection.
Polls also show Biden in a tossup race with Donald Trump.
And now one major Democrat just made it clear he will replace Joe Biden on the 2024 ticket.
As part of his ongoing campaign reboot, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis agreed to debate California Governor Gavin Newsom this fall in a contest televised by Fox News and moderated by Sean Hannity.
This is a never-before-seen event and some wondered why Newsom would want to debate a Republican candidate whose poll numbers are on the decline.
A California-based strategist Daniel Schnur told The Hill the answer is easy.
The debate will serve as Newsom’s audition for either the 2028 election or 2024 if Joe Biden eventually succumbs to the reality that he is not mentally or physically capable of serving as President.
“There is no downside at all for Newsom,” Schnur began.
“If Biden does run for reelection next year, this is excellent national exposure for the future. If Biden were to step aside, Newsom will have positioned himself as a plausible successor,” Schnur added.
“Either way, this is an immense boost to Newsom’s profile and will be of great benefit to him at some point,” Schnur concluded.
Florida-based Republican strategist Justin Sayfie said the same held true for Governor DeSantis.
DeSantis needs media attention to shake up the 2024 race and this debate will provide him a unique platform to draw voters’ attention and to make his case without other 2024 also-rans on the debate stage with him.
“I think there’s a lot of upside in it for Gov. DeSantis and quite frankly, there’s upside in it for Gov. Newsom for the same reason,” Sayfie stated.
“In the current political age we’re living in, voters want to see that the people they’re going to vote for can win the rhetorical battle against the other side,” Sayfie concluded. “This gives both candidates an opportunity to showcase that.”
This debate will also give DeSantis a chance to play to his strength which is his conservative record of achievement.
The states of Florida and California are the most pure distillation of the ideological governing philosophies of the two parties.
Newsom supported COVID lockdowns and every mandate under the sun.
California is a sanctuary state for both illegal aliens and parents looking to mutilate their children through transgender surgeries.
And California wants to ban and confiscate guns while protecting abortion-on-demand up until the moment of birth.
DeSantis boasts that Florida is where woke goes to die.
Florida banned Critical Race Theory in the classroom and transgender surgeries for minor children.
DeSantis also made headlines by being the loudest opponent of Dr. Fauci’s COVID tyranny.
Florida protects life after six-weeks and allows for permitless open carry of firearms.
A debate between Newsom and DeSantis will put these governing philosophies on display and allow the American people to see which one they prefer.
