Florida is known for the bizarre antics of its residents.
The country has been amused and shocked by what happens in the Sunshine State.
And one wild and crazy event to crown the ultimate Florida man is headed to TV.
Florida Man Games is headed to TV
The term “Florida man” picked up steam on the internet to describe the wild situations that residents of the state often found themselves in.
Pete Melfi decided to turn the crazy antics that Florida residents have found themselves into an Olympic-style competition to determine the ultimate Florida man.
He held the inaugural Florida Man Games last year where men and women competed in events like “beer belly sumo wrestling” and an “evading arrest obstacle course” last February.
The second annual Florida Man Games are primed to take things to the next level.
“Just when the world thought Floridians couldn’t Florida any wilder, they did. The Florida Man Games returns on March 1st, 2025, and how it got insured for round 2, no one will ever know,” a press release from Florida Man Games stated.
The 2025 edition will be held in the St. Augustine area.
“This irreverent competition, where the state’s most unruly residents serve as demigods of athletic prowess, is getting even weirder with new competitions, more insane teams, and a brand-new venue,” the press release added.
Florida Man Games will bring back some events like the mullet competition and add new ones like “the Florida sumo cage match.”
Melfi said that he has gotten serious interest about televising this year’s edition of the games.
“The Florida Man Game will be televised. There has been a lot of interest in making this a TV series; producers and studios have been calling since the day after the first event,” Melfi said.
This year’s Florida Man Games will take things to the next level
Melfi revealed that the event is going to receive first-class treatment from producers.
“I’m still getting calls from major production companies, on average, probably twice a month at least,” Melfi explained. “We’re close to a deal with one of the best production companies around, with popular recent specials on Netflix, ESPN, and more; they’re the real deal.”
The show could provide a behind-the-scenes look at the Florida men and women competing in the event.
“I think there are a lot of ways we could go with a TV show,” Melfi stated. “A docuseries where TV crews follow the competitors as they train leading up to the games.”
“A Jacka** meets Gladiators sports series, or maybe a reality show,” Melfi added. “These guys are all as real and as Florida as it gets, so it makes a lot of sense that this would be one hell of an entertaining televised show.”
A total of 12 teams, made up of three to five Florida residents will compete for the crown in the event.
One team will be picked from people in the audience at the event like the game show The Price is Right.
“A Florida Man or Woman is always a wild card in his or her own right,” the press release stated.
The Florida Man Games will determine just what team most embodies the zany spirit of the state.
