Florida Democrats thought they could just move on after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
They were dead wrong.
And Republicans hit back at Charlie Kirk’s enemies with one move that has Florida colleges panicking.
Republican lawmakers force colleges to honor Charlie Kirk or lose millions
Republican Representative Kevin Steele just filed a bombshell bill that’s sending shockwaves through Florida’s woke higher education establishment.
House Bill 113 doesn’t mess around – it mandates that all 40 state universities and colleges rename a major campus road after Charlie Kirk, or watch their state funding disappear.
The legislation gives these institutions exactly 90 days to comply once it becomes law.
That’s not a request – that’s an ultimatum with real teeth.
Steele made his intentions crystal clear when he announced the bill on social media.
"I’m honored to file HB 113, which renames a street at each of the 40 public institutions in Florida to Charlie James Kirk," Steele posted on X.¹

"My goal with this bill is to continue his legacy through generations of students that will attend our schools and will be faced with many differing ideas."
The bill specifically names which roads get renamed at each campus.
The University of Florida’s Stadium Road becomes Charlie James Kirk Road.
Florida State University’s Chieftain Way gets the same honor.
Even woke havens like Florida Atlantic University will have to rename their University Drive to Charlie James Kirk Drive.
Leftist professors and students having meltdowns over honoring conservative hero
The reaction from Florida’s academic Left has been exactly what you’d expect – complete hysteria.
Democrat Representative Anna Eskamani immediately attacked the legislation as "inflammatory" and a "political stunt."
"This bill clearly attempts to make our college campuses more partisan," Eskamani whined to reporters.²
But here’s what’s really driving these people crazy – they can’t stand the idea that Charlie Kirk’s name will be permanently etched into their precious progressive safe spaces.
Students at various campuses are already melting down over the prospect.
At Florida SouthWestern State College, one student complained, "He was a debater, and he stood for things, for sure, but that has nothing to do with us here at FSW."³
Another whined, "That’s completely unnecessary, right? Because it’s like, what does he have to do with us in FSW?"
Even more telling was a student at UF who revealed the Left’s true colors about Kirk.
"He wasn’t some civil rights activist," the student ranted. "He was actively spewing hatred."⁴
This is exactly the kind of warped thinking Charlie Kirk spent his life fighting against on college campuses.
The deeper strategy
This isn’t about slapping Kirk’s name on random campus streets – it’s about jamming conservative values right down the throats of institutions that spent years trying to silence him.
Think about it: these same universities rolled out the red carpet for every woke speaker who wanted to trash America, but they treated Kirk like some kind of dangerous extremist when all he did was ask students to think for themselves.
When Kirk visited these campuses during his debate tours, he consistently exposed the intellectual bankruptcy of woke ideology.
Now these same institutions are being forced to honor the man they tried so hard to marginalize when he was alive.
The genius of this bill is that it puts Florida colleges in an impossible position.
They can either comply and permanently memorialize a conservative champion they despise, or they can lose millions in state funding and explain to taxpayers why they refused to honor an assassinated American patriot.
Steele left no wiggle room – the roads that get renamed are major thoroughfares that every student, faculty member, and visitor will see.
"I wanted to make sure that it was a road that everybody would have to drive down," Steele explained to reporters.⁵
Steele’s turning the tables in the most beautiful way possible.
Every single day, these campus leftists will drive past Charlie Kirk’s name and get reminded that their little safe space bubble didn’t protect them from real consequences.
You want to silence conservative voices? Fine – but now you get to honor one of the best conservative voices this country ever produced, whether you like it or not.
The kids who loved Charlie Kirk – the ones who packed his campus events and cheered when he exposed liberal professors for the frauds they are – they’re getting the last laugh here.
Kirk’s legacy grows stronger as more states join the movement
The Florida legislation isn’t happening in isolation.
Lake County already designated a stretch of highway as Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway – making it the first local government in the nation to honor Kirk with a road designation.
Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated that achievement, posting on social media that "Lake County’s dedication of the highway represents the first county to memorialize Kirk in the aftermath of his assassination."⁶

But the Left’s reaction to these memorial efforts reveals just how threatened they remain by Kirk’s influence.
Fake images of vandalized Kirk memorial signs have already started circulating on social media, created by leftist agitators trying to stir up controversy.
The bill also comes with perfect timing.
For the thousands of young conservatives Kirk inspired through Turning Point USA, seeing his name honored at universities across the state represents the ultimate vindication.
The same academic institutions that tried to silence him in life will now be legally required to honor his memory forever.
That’s not just justice – that’s how you win the culture war.
