California Governor Gavin Newsom is constantly trying to pick a fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Last year, the California Democrat spent money from his reelection campaign to run ads on Fox News in Florida attacking DeSantis.
The Florida Governor has been punching back by pointing out the many problems plaguing California under his rule like crime and homelessness.
The pair surprised everyone when they agreed in principle to square off in a debate hosted by Sean Hannity on Fox News this year.
The two sides are still trying to iron out the details but the decision is already creating shockwaves.
The decision to debate is leaving top political advisors to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris fuming.
“Some Biden advisers have complained privately [that a] debate could make voters think Newsom is running a 2024 shadow campaign at a time when most Democrats say they’d prefer a different candidate at the top of the ticket,” NBC News reported. “Harris allies take particular umbrage at what they see as Newsom’s attempt to position himself for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary at the expense of the vice president.”
Newsom has been trying to build his political profile across the country by sparring with DeSantis.
The California Governor says he’s fully behind Biden but he’s once again trying to get into the limelight by debating a top GOP Presidential contender on national television.
“It’s disrespectful,” an adviser to Harris told NBC News. “Joe Biden is running with Kamala Harris. That’s the Democratic ticket.”
Normally, Harris would start 2028 as the Democrat frontrunner as the sitting Vice President.
Democrats are sensing weakness after her gaffe-filled stint as Biden’s second-in-command.
She’s become the most unpopular Vice President in modern history according to polling.
Speculation swirled in the media from anonymous Democrats that the party could be looking to replace her before Biden confirmed she’d be back on the ticket.
Harris is panicked about being upstaged by her fellow California Democrat.
Newsom will walk away and declare himself the victor even if DeSantis mops the floor with him.
The Florida Governor sparked a new round of infighting in the Democrat Party by agreeing in principle to debate Newsom.
