Ron DeSantis is taking the fight to Congress over their failure to make Elon Musk’s cost-cutting reforms permanent.
The Florida Governor isn’t mincing words about who’s to blame for the holdup.
And Ron DeSantis just blasted Republican lawmakers for this unforgivable betrayal of Elon Musk’s budget-slashing mission.
DeSantis unloads on Congressional Republicans for failing America
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has had enough of the foot-dragging from Congress when it comes to making Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cuts permanent.
DeSantis didn’t hold back during an appearance in Apopka, Florida on Tuesday, blasting his fellow Republicans for failing to deliver on President Trump’s signature efficiency initiative.
“We have a Republican Congress,” DeSantis fumed, “and to this day, we’re in the end of May — past Memorial Day — and not one cent in DOGE cuts have been implemented by the Congress.”
The Governor’s strong support for Musk comes at a pivotal moment, as the tech billionaire confirmed on Wednesday night that he’s stepping back from his government role to refocus on his companies Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk, who has been working without pay to slash government waste, has faced constant obstruction from activist judges and bureaucrats determined to protect their turf.Â
Now, as he exits, Congressional inaction threatens to erase his hard-fought gains.
Capitol Hill bureaucrats playing games with budget cuts
While Republican Congressional leaders claim they support Musk’s cost-cutting mission, they’ve offered little more than excuses for their inaction.
They blame arcane Senate rules for the “reconciliation” procedure they’re using, arguing that DOGE cuts can only apply to mandatory spending programs – not the specific programs and jobs Musk targeted for elimination.
This leaves them with two options: passing a formal rescission request from the White House or creating a separate appropriations bill that would require 60 votes in the Senate instead of a simple majority.
It’s the kind of Washington double-talk that infuriates voters who sent Trump back to the White House to drain the swamp.
For his part, Musk has made his own frustrations clear, taking to social media to criticize the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on taxes and immigration for increasing the deficit despite making cuts to food and health care assistance.
White House finally taking action
After weeks of delay, the Trump administration appears ready to move forward.Â
According to reporting from POLITICO, the White House plans to send over a proposal next week to cut $9.4 billion, targeting public media and foreign aid.
Speaker Mike Johnson has vowed on X that the House would “act quickly” once it receives the proposal.

The development will likely please DeSantis and other Musk defenders who have been pushing for concrete action on the DOGE cuts.
DeSantis has maintained a strong relationship with Musk despite their political differences in the past.Â
The Florida Governor even launched his ill-fated presidential campaign over X Spaces last year – a glitch-filled rollout that nonetheless demonstrated how highly DeSantis valued Musk’s influence with voters.
While that partnership didn’t lead to presidential success for DeSantis, Musk ultimately became one of Trump’s most powerful allies, pouring an astounding $288 million into the 2024 election and helping secure endorsements from influential figures like podcaster Joe Rogan.
Now, as Musk scales back his government role, DeSantis appears determined to use his platform to pressure Congress into cementing the tech billionaire’s legacy of government reform.
The question remains whether Republican lawmakers will finally heed the call or continue the Washington tradition of promising reform while protecting the status quo.
