Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is an emerging national leader of the Republican Party.
And as speculation mounts that DeSantis will launch a Presidential campaign this summer, the big question remains as to if DeSantis can win.
Now Ron DeSantis just got compared to Barack Obama for this strange reason.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, co-host Joe Scarborough compared DeSantis running against Trump in 2024 to Barack Obama challenging Hillary Clinton in 2008.
Back in 2008 all the so-called “smart people” accepted Hillary Clinton winning the election as a fait accompli.
Scarborough admitted he did not think a first term Senator, just four years out of the Illinois state legislature could take down the Clinton machine.
“Boy, he’s a perfect example. I will say, he is a perfect – I mean, you can line him up with Ron DeSantis in this respect, you don’t know how DeSantis in the end is going to do on the national stage. I was very skeptical that a State Senator that just got elected to the United States Senate was going to beat the Clinton machine,” Scarborough began.
But Scarborough said in the 2008 primary the stars aligned for Obama – Clinton voted for the Iraq War, which proved to be a disaster – and defeated Clinton in one of the most stunning upsets in political history.
Scarborough explained he thought DeSantis in 2024 could travel the same trajectory.
“Sometimes it’s lightning in a bottle,” Scarborough continued.
Polls show Ron DeSantis leading Donald Trump both nationally and in individual states such as New Hampshire, Alabama, and South Carolina.
Coming off the disastrous 2022 Midterm elections, conservatives are looking for a fighter who will also win.
DeSantis continues to rack up victories with the latest being forcing the College Board to abandon the woke curriculum of an AP black history class that included queer theory, feminism, and Marxist Critical Race Theory while also revoking the liquor license of an establishment that hosted a sexually explicit drag queen event for children.
Republicans want to win in 2024.
But they also want some who will stand up for their values and push back on the Left’s institutional assault on American culture and society.
DeSantis owns a proven record on both counts and that could lead to him catching that type of “lightning in a bottle” that allows him to win a GOP presidential nomination when everyone thinks Trump is the inevitable nominee.
