Donald Trump has been attacking Ron DeSantis more and more over the past few months.
DeSantis has so far refused to trade barbs with the former President.
And Ron DeSantis just made one reporter instantly regret asking him to respond to Donald Trump’s attacks.
Donald Trump is currently the only major Republican candidate to officially enter the 2024 GOP Presidential Primary race.
Before the Midterm elections, polls consistently showed Donald Trump dominating the rest of the Republican field.
That all began to change when Trump-backed candidates lost several races in key battleground states in the Midterms.
Governor Ron DeSantis led Republicans to a 19-point landslide re-election victory, gained a supermajority in the state legislature, and turned the Sunshine State solid Red.
DeSantis’ impressive performance in Florida skyrocketed him from a distant second place to running neck-and-neck with Trump in the 2024 Primary battle, with some polls showing the Governor in the top spot.
Even though DeSantis is keeping his plans close to his chest, he is a top contender for the GOP nomination and is expected to enter the race at the end of the legislative session this summer.
Sensing a potential threat to winning the GOP nomination, Donald Trump started attacking Ron DeSantis in speeches a few days before the Midterm elections, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
DeSantis brushed off the attacks and pointed to his massive re-election victory.
But Donald Trump took his attacks to a new level on Tuesday by posting an old photo of DeSantis from when he taught high school on his Truth Social platform and accused him of “grooming high school girls with alcohol.”
During a press conference on Wednesday morning in Ocala, Florida, reporters pressed DeSantis to respond to Trump’s attacks in an attempt to start a brutal war between the two top Republicans for 2024.
But Ron DeSantis refused to play ball with the reporters.
“I get that you guys want the controversy,” DeSantis said, before turning the conversation to a roundtable he held on Tuesday on penalties for media “defamation.”
“I face defamatory stuff every single day I’ve been Governor,” he added. “That’s just the nature of it.”
DeSantis refused to play into the attempt to get him to trade barbs with Donald Trump.
The Florida Governor told reporters he has more important things to do, such as “fighting against Joe Biden.”
“I spend my time delivering results for the people of Florida and fighting against Joe Biden,” DeSantis told the reporter. “That’s how I spend my time,” he continued, before adding that “I don’t spend my time trying to smear other Republicans.”
