Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is making an effort to appear for interviews on networks that fall outside the traditional conservative media sphere.
DeSantis recently sat down for a rare appearance with CBS’ Norah O’Donnell.
And Ron DeSantis just set the left-wing media straight about Florida’s six week ban on abortions.
Outside of Donald Trump, there is no Republican who the left-wing media despises more than Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis is known for his thick skin and his willingness to go toe-to-toe with the left-wing media.
For the past couple of years, DeSantis mostly ignored the mainstream media and prevented left-wing reporters from even entering many of his events.
But that is no longer the case for DeSantis.
As part of his recent campaign reboot, DeSantis is making an effort to appear on more left-leaning networks like NBC, CNN, and MSNBC.
DeSantis recently appeared for a sit-down interview on CBS with host Norah O’Donnell.
The interview covered a variety of issues from Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s age, to foreign policy, to the border crisis.
DeSantis told O’Donnell that he believes China is the top threat facing America.
“We don’t want a war with China, we want to prevent a war with China,” he said. “I think the way you prevent a war with China is through strength and having a strong military.”
DeSantis also declared Biden too old to be President, saying that “the presidency is not a job for someone that’s 80 years old.”
But it was the issue of abortion where O’Donnell decided to challenge DeSantis the most.
O’Donnell brought up the ban on abortions after six weeks that DeSantis signed into law last year and claimed that it included penalties for women.
“We asked the Governor whether the penalties mentioned in Florida’s six week ban would include women,” she told her audience.
After DeSantis made it clear that “the penalties are for the physician,” O’Donnell fired back with “Governor, I read the bill, and it says just this: it does include jail time and fines for quote, ‘any person who willfully performs, or actively participates in, a termination of pregnancy.’”
“Right,” DeSantis said. “That’s for the providers, that’s not for the women.”
O’Donnell, refusing to admit she was wrong, pressed again by asking “is a woman not actively participating in the termination of her pregnancy?”
“No,” DeSantis said for a third time. “She’s not a medical practitioner.”
“So, you are not for criminalizing women–” she asked DeSantis.
Refusing to allow her to continue with her gotcha question, he interjected “No, absolutely not, and that will not happen in Florida.”
Ron DeSantis showed patience and temperance with O’Donnell going out of her way to try and paint him as anti-women.
