Elon Musk’s Twitter Files proved that Big Tech colluded with government officials behind the scenes to censor conservative speech online.
But censorship of conservative speech extends beyond the realm of social media.
And Ron DeSantis just urged House Republicans to demand answers about this shocking act of discrimination.
Back in 2021, Democrat Representatives Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney wrote letters to numerous cable and satellite distributors demanding answers for why they allow channels like One America News Network (OANN), Newsmax, and Fox News Channel on the air.
The Democrats claimed these networks “radicalized individuals to commit seditious acts” and were guilty of “incitement of violence.”
“We are concerned about the role” each distributor “plays in disseminating misinformation to millions of [its] subscribers, and we write to you to request additional information about what actions [each distributor] is taking to address these issues,” the letter read.
In what appeared to be a response to the Democrats’ letter, DirecTV dropped OANN from its programming in early 2022.
And now, roughly one year after DirectTV dropped OANN, the company just cut the conservative channel Newsmax from its lineup.
Ron DeSantis, who has been fighting back against Big Tech in Florida, is calling on Republicans in Congress to take action and investigate potential “intellectual discrimination” of conservatives on TV.
“I think it does warrant an investigation,” DeSantis said about DirecTV dropping Newsmax. “I think probably the Congress, in the House, would probably be best to do it,” he continued, before adding “and I think they need to ensure that there’s no intellectual discrimination going on when it comes to what people are able to view.”
Of course, DirectTV claims it dropped Newsmax over a failure to agree on terms for a contract.
But Newsmax was the fourth rated cable news network on TV behind the giant networks of Fox, CNN, and MSNBC.
DeSantis predicted the companies would offer excuses for why they dropped Newsmax in an effort to avoid censorship criticism.
“And they’ll give different rationales for why they don’t want to do it,” he said. “The reality is they have so much other content that is very lightly viewed, yet they keep that on,” he continued, before adding that “it seems that it’s the One America News and the Newsmax who are being targeted.”
Over 41 Republicans in Congress agree with DeSantis and are planning an investigation into potential ideological censorship.
“41 Republican Congressmen led by Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, sent a letter to the CEOs of AT&T, DirecTV, and hedge fund TPG Capital, the minority operator of the satellite system, warning of hearings,” Newsmax reported.
“The members of Congress also demanded to know why conservative media was being targeted for censorship, with the letter noting the House is ‘deeply concerned about this undemocratic assault on free speech.’”
Ron DeSantis showed Republicans how to stand up and fight Big Tech and the radical Left.
And his brave leadership is encouraging Republicans in Congress to investigate Big Tech censorship in the media.
